Bought Magellan and Addictive Synth for iPad 3. Both highly recommended! (And both on sale right now.) It's incredible what sounds you can get for a little more than ten bucks.
Watch the demos of Addictive Synth on their homepage. And then try NOT to buy it. Game devs! This synth is perfect for game effect sounds and noises!Magellan Demos were already posted. It's absolutely awesome and incredible what's going on right now with iOS sound production. One, two years ago I thought it couldn't be better. But the surprises don't stop. Those devices with that software are simply outstanding. And the best: With an iPad you can put together the cheapest and most professional sound & music studio of ALL computer platforms!!! And pretty mobile. Get some good earphones (I recommend Sennheiser or AKG, very good in-ears start @ US$ 50) and let's rock! You can't stop with that. And you can do it in the bus or plane. |

bought BeatMaker 2, finally, two nights ago. It's been on my wish list for quite a long time just waited for the price to drop but following its latest updates I just couldn't help it, and broke under the pressure..
![]() Generally I believe it's in the middle of the synth-sample scale. NanoStudio is best at the synth territory and is small and handles mass amount of tracks with surprising grace, while GarageBand provides the best sample quality but is not too great with the synths and also very slow and can't do too many instruments, also it is huge in size. BM2 is right in the middle there between NS and GB. If I would like to do a rock tune I'd probably go with GB, if I want to do a complex-layered electronic tune I'd go with NS, and if i want to do a little of both I'd pick BM2. |

Bought Magellan over the weekend and it is WELL worth the price. I find the sounds to be somewhat in the hybrid (analog/digital 80's) age. Some sounds remind me of my Ensoniq ESQ-1. Other sounds have that sharp FM-attack of the Yamaha DX7. There is a brightness to the analog sounds, giving them a digital feel. There is so much wrapped into this synth. Learning the arpeggiator and sequencer will take some time. I have around ten iOS synths, and Magellan does seem to fit a style/sound/capability that I have not yet heard/seen from another app.
I am getting a short lag when using the on-board keyboard (this may be due to my older iPad 1). Hooking up a keyboard was fine, though. I also found the reverb to be too bright and all sounding like a room. Changing the size would lengthen things, but the overall sound quality of the reverb resembles a room to me. I also have less polyphony on the iPad 1. Something to look forward to in the future with a new iPad. My wife has an iPad 2, but I don't use it. My hope is to use this synth for creating rhythmic patterns and then play over them with other equipment. > Watch the demos of Addictive Synth on their homepage. And then try NOT to buy it. Hahahaha. Very true. I have had Addictive for awhile. I watched several videos which all CLEARLY show the capabilities and sounds. I could not hold back. I bought it mainly for strings/pads which I find it well suited. You can spend quite a lot of time playing with the randomizer and drawing on it.
