How does Galaxy on Fire compare to the Escape Velocity series?

Hey everyone.

Anyone remember (or are still playing lol) the Escape Velocity series from Ambrosia software? The latest one was EV Nova, I wonder if they'll make another?

I'm just wondering... how does Galaxy on Fire compare to that series? It seems similar.

I'd love to have an EV type game on my iPhone.

I just bought GOF. Should I set it for touch or tilt?

I find tilt to be more accurate :-)

Yeah it does look really good. I just might end up getting it, but any comparisons to Escape Velocity would help the decision even more

...had a few people compare it favorably to EV, which is also what encouraged me to drop a quick $6.

I'll post back in a bit with my opinions...

Nice! That's pointing me towards a purchase

I'm looking forward to your opinions on it as well.

First impressions...

First off, the caveat: it's supposed to open up a lot more after mission 13, with 500 different planets throughout the galaxy where you can get missions and sell the loot you get during flights. Until then, it's a scripted mission set, with limited freedom.

However, at least for the first hour of gameplay for me (sorry, got sidetracked by the Sharks game, heh) it's more of a space combat sim than a combat/commerce hybrid... but it's a *good* combat sim. With that, and with the promise of 20+ hours of gameplay once I get the scripted missions over with, I'm happy with the purchase.
