Well currently isn't just speculation on what type of attack this was? If it was a ddos attack then information may not necessarily be compromised. Then again if someone was able to actually gain access to the servers and capture data now that would be scary! Encrypted or not that's a lot of potential liability...

Default pissed off the wrong geeks

looks like Sony really pissed off the wrong geeks.

Theres an assosiation of hackers that have promised to make life miserable for PS fans, because Sony pulled free backwords compatability and Linux from the PS3.

I don't condone criminal activity but I understand their (the hackers) frustrations, Sony could have avoided this with some better Public Relations. Thet acted rather calously with their core fans and the core fans are stricking back.

Anyway, I always prefered XBOX. Personal choice.

AS for Credit Card info, as anyone involved in electronic business knows, it is very unlikly that the information would be heavily encrypted. In fact, there is likly no encryption at the data base level. If you gave your CC to play station network, you might consider contacting your CC company just in case.

If the disruption went unnoticed for 24 hours, I think we have a major problem.

Interesting to note that Anonymous posted a message saying "for once we didn't do it" and Sony has suggested the attack was coming from somewhere in Japan.
Yet another reason why people think of the Japanese as weird/strange persons = /
