"a really polished contender shows up and perfects the genre nearly to the point of redefinition." - Appadvice

"Plug those headphones in and go on a trippy and hypnotic electro beat journey which is a totally cool and fun experience." 5/5 - iphonegameruk.co.uk

We'll put great emphasis on the leaderboards and will be organizing weekly contests with prizes for best players.
The future will hold exciting times for Supersonic: you'll be able to "ride" your iPod songs and dominate its highscore list.

Within a few minutes of playing this I loved it and new I had to have it. BUT...

No Retina Display?! Okay, not every game on the App Store needs HD graphics, but Supersonic's gorgeous visuals are just screaming out for the retina treatment. Unfortunately, even the app's icon is Standard-Def and as such looks pretty awful - especially next to all those crisp and shiny icons on my home screen.

This probably sounds a little petty, but all the same, I'm afraid I shan't be buying removing the ads or buying the full game until this is addressed. I want to, I really do, but I'm afraid just can't.

Such a shame. Sorry!

Other than that, Supersonic might just be a genuine 5-star speed riot.

Thanx for the comment Simon.
Supersonic supports retina display, but there's a bug in the app icon, and it's low res. 1.0.4 (next) update will fix this!

Game Impressions

Here is my 4 star iTunes review just posted:

Ready trip out to some techno fun as you take a highspeed thrill ride into an endless tunnel? Well, okay then, this is the game for you.

The gameplay itslef is pretty simple, hold your iDevice in landscape mode kind of like a steering wheel as you guide your ship (you're always flying along the bottom center of the screen, the steering will just cause the tube walls to spin around you) to snag all of the power crystals you can while avoiding the mines and walls. Each crystal you snag will help increase your score multiplier higher and higher giving you even bigger points for sliding down the tube as well as each crystal you pickup. Mines aren't fatal in this game, but what they do might be seen as worse than death! If you bump into a mine your hard won bonus multiplier will be sent back down to 1. Walls, on the other hand, are fatal (at least in Classic). If you bump into a wall the ride is over so don't do it (easier said then done as you crusie through the course at an ever increasing speed).

While all of the Classic courses are endless with somewhat randomized object placement, the specific course you choose in Classic (4 at this point) dictates the layout of the track itself and basic object placement behavior (where the random walls are placed and how the crystals and mines are clustered).

There is also the Blitz mode which changes things up a bit from the Classic mode model. Here the basic rules are the same but you are trying to see how far you can get within a set time limit and can equip yourself with some power-ups (at the cost of game credits). Hitting a wall in Blitz won't kill you but does reset your multiplier as well as take off a big chunk of time. In addition to the game's standard crystals, mines, and walls, this mode adds in credit cubes, bonus timers, and score multipliers.

While the game is FREE, you'll need to pony up cash to unlock the additional Classic courses, a separate IAP to remove ads, and then a whole line of game credit packs for the Blitz mode.

While a 5 star experience I dock it 1 star due to it being yet another game going down the "pay to play" scheme with the power-ups in Blitz. While you can earn credits in-game and would never NEED to buy the IAP credit packs, it would take you SEVERAL GAMES to even earn enough credits to add in one of the power-ups for just a single run. If you want to earn your spot in the leaderboards you'll need to fork out some extra cash.
