"This game is fantastic, especially if you immerse yourself in it. Lie on your back with headphones in the dark and you'll be blown away with the immersive smooth 3D experience you can get out of a little smartphone!"

"Much more engaging than any 3D driving game!"

"To a remarkable degree I find that I can get "in the zone" and connect with game experience. In doing so, one can ever so slightly blur the line between reality and flying through a colorful, textured artificial three dimensional space. Kudos!"

Come on guys, has no one else got this?
I've been waiting for a decent tunnel game for iPad and this definitely fills the void.

I got this too and it is most enjoyable. The graphics is smooth and while it might be relatively simple, it works well. The real kicker is the gameplay and music. The music is excellent and the game has this "one more go"-thing going for it.

The game works much better on the iPad, since it allows for better immersion.

Something that threw me off a bit at first is why is it that you can get the iPhone version FREE whereas the devs are charging at least $2.99 for this seemingly identical game?

It turns out it isn't as "let's stick it to the iPaders" as it might appear.

Basically when you get the Supersonic HD a few of the iPhone game's IAPs are pre-installed for that extra charge.

-No Banner-Ads (a $0.99 IAP in the FREE iPhone version)
-All Classic Levels (a $0.99 IAP in the FREE iPhone version)
-50,000 credits (a $0.99 IAP in the FREE iPhone version)

So while there are IAPs still in Supersonic HD, they are just for the expendable credit packs used to buy the optional power-ups in the Blitz mode of the game (much like the trend started in Bejeweled Blitz, you purchase the power-ups before the game and they'll only have a very finite number of uses before you need to re-purchase them).

Game Impressions

Here is what I'd hoped to post for my iTunes review, but as I received the game via a promo I'm being blocked (I was able to leave reviews for other games just released this week I got via promos, so it isn't clear which way Apple is going on this):

Ready trip out to some techno fun as you take a highspeed thrill ride into an endless tunnel? Well, okay then, this is the game for you.

The gameplay itslef is pretty simple, hold your iDevice in landscape mode kind of like a steering wheel as you guide your ship (you're always flying along the bottom center of the screen, the steering will just cause the tube walls to spin around you) to snag all of the power crystals you can while avoiding the mines and walls. Each crystal you snag will help increase your score multiplier higher and higher giving you even bigger points for sliding down the tube as well as each crystal you pickup. Mines aren't fatal in this game, but what they do might be seen as worse than death! If you bump into a mine your hard won bonus multiplier will be sent back down to 1. Walls, on the other hand, are fatal (at least in Classic). If you bump into a wall the ride is over so don't do it (easier said then done as you crusie through the course at an ever increasing speed).

While all of the Classic courses are endless with somewhat randomized object placement, the specific course you choose in Classic (4 at this point) dictates the layout of the track itself and basic object placement behavior (where the random walls are placed and how the crystals and mines are clustered).

There is also the Blitz mode which changes things up a bit from the Classic mode model. Here the basic rules are the same but you are trying to see how far you can get within a set time limit and can equip yourself with some power-ups (at the cost of game credits). Hitting a wall in Blitz won't kill you but does reset your multiplier as well as take off a big chunk of time. In addition to the game's standard crystals, mines, and walls, this mode adds in credit cubes, bonus timers, and score multipliers.

Unlike the FREE iPhone version, all Classic courses are unlocked from the get go, there are no banner ads, and you start off with far more initial credits than the iPhone version. The only IAPs left are for the game credit packs.

While a 5 star experience I dock it 1 star due to it being yet another game going down the "pay to play" scheme with the power-ups in Blitz. While you can earn credits in-game and would never NEED to buy the IAP credit packs, it would take you SEVERAL GAMES to even earn enough credits to add in one of the power-ups for just a single run. If you want to earn your spot in the leaderboards you'll need to fork out some extra cash.
