App description: Castlerama takes you on a photorealistic walk through a beautiful, detailed and accurately lit 3D setting. Merging real and imaginary elements, it draws inspiration from the charming town of Assisi, in Italy. You are left to find your own way around by touch and sight alone. Exploring a whole world becomes a matter of lifting your fingers.

Our goal? To fool your eyes and brain considering it all real. When you go back with your memory to the day you first opened this Mentalbox, you will think it was you on the cobblestone, you in the alleys, you in the catacombs...

While developing Castlerama, we had to face the fact that newer devices such as iPhone4s and iPad2s are very different from their predecessors, iPhone3GSs and iPads, in that the former have twice as much memory. In order to have the app run on all devices, we had to compromise quite a bit, pushing the old devices to their limits (risking crash if other applications are left running) while keeping the new devices well behind their capabilities.

Powered by Unreal Engine.

In the future we believe we will have to develop two versions for each application.

We currently have a couple of projects in our pipeline, and we are very likely to release a game, or a series of virtual tours, or both.

Unreal, the engine by Epic, is very smooth, even though its development kit for mobile devices is very young, still in its beta, and not yet fully documented.

We hope you will enjoy this demo and we remind you to please check our support page if you encounter any problem.

So...... you just walk around? No quests, enemies, items to collect? What's the point of playing?

So it's more of a tech demo than a game? Well even though Epic Citadel was a tech demo, I still played it quite a lot. So if this game has a bigger open world then that would be cool.

Just tried the demo and it looks pretty breathtaking! It has some fps drops when looking at light sources but isnt that much. So, when do we expect the real game? Hope it's not on rails like IB, this must be open world free roam!

Epic citadel was an UE3 tech demo from chair, this is just another UE3 tech demo.

Anyway, I downloaded it and it's ok. The graphics are good, although the textures and lighting look nowhere near as good as Epic Citadel. The frame rate isn't nearly as smooth either and that's using an iPhone 4 with ~ 350 MB of free RAM. The area you can roam around is also tiny in comparison, although it does feature a cool tunnel/catacomb. It's free so download it if you wish, just don't expect anything as good as Epic Citadel.
