Hi Pink n purple. To outsource in shanghai it might cost you about $4000 USD for one of the more expensive studios. You can get it cheaper with some smaller companies here.

You don't need a visa to hire a team here. You would just need a business visa if you were here for work / setting up your own business.

Hope this helps.

Well,

i am not from china but i am chinese.
My advice is dont try subcon to most indian who claim to deliver budget product.
Coz what i learnt from experience is low budget come with low quality.

What I'm really after is outsourcing artwork. I need to find a company that can do 2d pixel artwork. I've found a few companies that can do this but it would be great to have more to choose from.

Have you tried going to forums like pixeljoint.com and wayofthepixel.net? I found great 2d pixel artists from nearly every single country in the world at these sites simply by posting paid job listings in their forums.

I did try that but unfortunately the artist that was chosen let me down... I'd rather deal with an outsourcing company that specialises with pixel artwork that can set a completion time and pricing - really just getting the job done in a professional manner.

I'd agree its a bit hit-or-miss and found some people to be lazy, rude, or unprofessional at these sites. On the other hand, I have also found a handful of very competent artists who are fairly priced and eager to please. Wish I could share names with you now, but I still need the guys that are working for me (and have been for the last year or more!)

Fair warning for anyone attempting to do any outsourcing I suppose... Do your homework! Even if you've got what would seem to be a reputable "company" you might not get quality results.

Final thoughts for the OP- don't look for the cheapest possible labor to take advantage of. It will come back to haunt you. Ripped sprites and copied graphics, poorly written code that barely works... I have heard of all of these things happening to people, including to members of these forums

I think Maura Kalusky (http://www.supermaura.de/) did a great pixel job on our game Blood Fever: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/blood-fever/id407947417?mt=8

He probably is busy at the moment with board game work, but he is always friendly to talk to.
