wow that's awesome as. So it only works on a small range of viewing angles?

As far as mach dice goes, there's already an app that does almost the exact same thing called MotionX Dice. It has the realistic physics and also the shadow responds to the accelerometer. I don't know if this guy is involved with MotionX or not, but that Mach Dice video looks a lot like MotionX Dice.

MotionX Dice is also free so just d/l it to check it out if you're curious.

It looks as though it's the same accelerometer angle response I've seen in a number of other apps (MotionX Dice/Poker, StressToy, Wooden 3D Labyrinth, etc.) just tuned to the point where the shifting of the angle is matched to the proper angle of the device.

Well that is an updated video from when i last saw it, it was just a concept video, now it looks like he's actually coded it. Yea some other apps use the same techniques, but this demo seems to be the coolest one I have seen. I would pay $1 for that easily...

wait, if the device is laid like that on the table, shouldn't the gyro be unable to detect any rotation unless there's gravity involved?

I think you guys got have been had!

Maybe his table is slightly angled?

That looks about as real as it gets....

I think so, I tried Mach Dice, works great as long as you have the device in your hand, but once you put it down on a flat tabletop, rotate as you might, them dice won't move.
