P1XL Party is a pixelated celebration of the spirit of classic video games! Five games, with more to come in free updates, are included in this compilation. In our second update, Bat Bite (an early NES-style "cave flyer" game) joins Bounced (a hybrid paddle/ball herding game), Splatform (a platformer/jumper), Wanderers (an action-rpg), and Marz (a shooter/bomber game). Future free updates already in development include other classic genres: puzzle, racing, strategy, and more.

P1XL programmers/designers Sam Washburn and Robin Harbron bring you new games that would have been right at home alongside the classics in the arcades, or on your console or home computer in the early 1980s. Here are the six games included so far:

Splatform - before Doodle Jump, before Papi Jump, there was Splatform for the Commodore 64. Entered in the 2002 Minigame Programming Competition, Splatform took 1st place by a wide margin in a field of 62 new games for old systems. This addictive platform jumper was also adapted for the Atari 2600, and now you can play a pixel-perfect recreation of the C-64 original on your iOS device. Now improved with extra leaderboards and music!

Wanderers - The seven daughters of the King are lost, wandering the kingdom. Night is falling soon - you are the brave knight who must find and return the princesses to the castle, protecting them from the fearsome beasts that roam the swampy lands. Chests with improved armour and weapons, and potions can be found to help you in your quest. Now improved with extra music!

Marz - Save your scout craft by bombing clear a landing area on the Martian surface. Authentic Commodore 64-style graphics mixed with classic "Bomber" gameplay and a couple new twists make this an addictive addition to the P1XL collection.

Bounced - take classic Pong-like action, mash it up with classic sheep-herding(?) action, and you have a unique game experience that requires fast reflexes, and a bit of strategy too. Atari 2600-style visuals and sounds add to the charm of this original game from P1XL.

Bat Bite - early NES-styled "cave flyer". Guide the hungry fruit bat through increasingly narrow and twisty cave, in search of the ultimate meal. A special Daredevil mode adds to the challenge.

SG13 - drive your muscle car through 40 miles of alien robot-infested roads to deliver the SG13 nanobots to the scientists in a desperate bid to save the earth in this 80s-arcade inspired racer.

Each game has Game Center leaderboards so you can compete for high scores against people around the world, and also achievements to add another level of challenge. More games will be included in free updates!

Robin/P1XL's comments:
It just went live: P1XL Party for 99 cents.

Hope you like it!

Bought this last night, really like Splatform, very very simple graphics but just has great gameplay.

Not so keen on Marz but to be fair its a classic old retro type game (I remember a similar type in for this type of game).

Looking forward to the other games coming out in the future. Well worth the money.

Thanks, glad you like it! The extremely simple graphics are due to staying 100% true to the original Commodore 64 version of the game. That C-64 version was extremely simple because it was a 1k (1,024 byte) game, created for a contest in 2002. It took 1st place!

It's from the "Bomber" genre that was pretty common in the early 1980s. I found that our testers that remember those games weren't overly keen on it either, but others who hadn't encountered a bomber game before liked it a lot more.

Thanks for your comments!

We've got a webpage for P1XL Party up now: http://p1xl.com/party/

For those of you that are Commodore 64 fans, two of the games have C-64 connections:

Marz has a very faithful C-64 look, and is based on the bomber games that were very common on that platform in the early 80s.

Splatform is a pixel-perfect port of the C-64 game I made in 2002. I entered it in a game coding competition (with a 1k file size limit!) and took first place out of 62 entries. It might be the original jumper game, if only I had beat PapiJump and DoodleJump to the App Store!

I forgot to add one more significant bit of Splatform trivia:

I was on the development team for the Commodore 64 DTV in 2004 - it was a plug and play joystick with a C-64 on a chip inside. As an easter egg, we hid Splatform and several other games inside, and approximately 250,000 units were made. So this game has already been around quite a bit!

Awesome, I love bleepy retro stuff. And I had my C64 DTV out just the other day. Good luck with the launch, Robin!

Great little collection. The style is great, a virtual floating pad would be a nice addition though.
