This is exactly what I was saying a couple of pages ago: A beats B regularly; B has no problems with C; yet C dominates A. WTF?
On the surface, it makes no sense. But it doesn't take an advanced degree to spot the two main factors:
1. Play styles.
We all tend to use default strategies or go after "favorite" cards, even if we try not to. It's human nature. And we'll stick with things that worked in the past, even if they might not be working so well currently (especially with the expansion).
Ascension has more of it than many of us would be comfortable admitting. Good players, of course, will do everything they can to minimize
the luck factor, but any game that relies on a shuffling mechanic and a blind draw into the center row is going to have a certain luck factor.
There's players posting here who I beat with great regularity, and there's others with whom I have a sub-.500 record, but I'm not quite ready to say I'm definitely
better than the first group and/or definitely
worse than the second. I'd probably win more if I stopped grabbing my favorite cards 90 percent of the time, but I'd probably also win more if I wore a shirt woven with four-leaf clovers.
