Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer [Universal] [Storm of Souls expansion]

Got this a little while ago. I am a relative newb to the whole "deck building" genre, having only played the Gundabad game on my iPod, which is a clone of Dominion. I was expecting almost the same exact type of game here.

And it is similar, although I was pleasantly surprised by the mechanics of this game. I actually like them a lot better than Dominion/Gundabad. The main differences are:

Instead of a set number of type of cards that stay constant throughout a whole game, this game has a row of cards that are defeated or recruited and then other cards replace the ones used up, so you never know what the next card is going to be.

Also, instead of just primarily buying cards that let you buy more cards as in Dominion, there are cards to both buy and defeat, which feels like a much more balanced experience.

Technically I have no complaints about this app. The screen is really busy to be sure, but you are never lost as to what is going on, and there are shortcuts all over the place that really let you streamline the gameplay.

After playing this on my iPod, I really want the physical version now, and that wasn't the case after I played Gundabad.

Ran down the 8 pages long rulebook which is very clear and concise and beautifully constructed.

Onto the tutorial right now (not a video!)

Minor problem: when the tutorial says "drag an Apprentice" it actually means drag ALL Apprentice cards.

AfaIct, the level of polish can compete with Carcassonne.
Have to check out the AI.
Price for this app is absolutely ok. The board game costs 6-8 times as much.

About the game:

I love the game, because it is very fair - every player has exactly the same chance to win, it all depends on your skill and your strategies. You just have to be flexible. The only time the factor of luck comes into play is when new cards are drawn.

Don't have the time to finish the first game yet but I have to agree. You do not need to pour extra money to enjoy it and you can set pace and enjoy async multiplay. I also find the price is about right.

No hang-ups nor crashes so far on iPad1 running 4.3.3

This makes me wonder if the game AI is pretty much weak... No offense.

Great this is out! Have been anticipating this for a while!
Also last few days I've been loading up AppStore to check for it.
Only to realize now that I was searching for " acsension" and not "ascension"! So was never going to find it! D'oh!!
