I've played in four tournaments at BGG in the last 2-3 weeks alone. The differences seem to be:

1. Better organization;

2. A strong commissioner (or leader, or organizer, or whatever you want to call him).

3. Definitive time limits to finish games or multi-game matches.

Those three things are a must. Otherwise, you're just kidding yourselves.
Sounds good, and I completely agree.

Before that, there were 19 eight-player events run in less time than it took the lone tournament here to grind to a halt. If you guys are serious about doing it here, you need a new format and a commissioner who cares.
Why don't say you(and one other knowledgeable member here if two are needed) commission it, given we can get enough active people to have a tournament here at TA? I for one would have no problem with that and the I'm all for structure.

LOL!!!

He is a fun adversary. Like many here actually. I more often than once feel till the end the uncertainty of the end result. And scores are always very close.
I think I recently lost from somebody here by 1 point even, and then won by 5 or 6.

Loving this game, despite the fact that sometimes cards just do not seem to get right in my hands :-) (same for everybody I guess). Now to the tournament thread!

Ya to be honest, i thought you had that game too. I acquire some high points cards during my last 2 turns which manage to pull me through. This unpredictability aspect of the game also gives it an additional excitement factor.

Yup, you just won by 3 in a match I could really not predict the end.

Yeah, he's a good player. I've lost a number of times to him too, but yesterday I finally beat him, and good too By like 20-30 points I think?

BTW, what is everyone's top score so far? I got 106 the other day, though I can't remember if this is my highest.

lol I think it's just cuz it's a challenge. The thing is with this game, it's not always easy to tell when you're winning/losing or even WHY you won or lost. I mean sure, you can count the points on the cards, but it's not always as easy to figure out why your particular selection of cards does well or poorly - I think this goes back to the luck factor and partially the choices your opponent makes as well. So when you find an opponent that beats you consistently, you (or at least I) want to find out why and what it takes to return the favor.
It's certainly nothing personal

But winning or loosing with duke is not random act ... :-)

Jokes apart, on BCG there is a wonder post on strategy that explain the basic of what I consider key in the game and that I learned once I stared experimenting and loosing almost 200 games in three days.
Gives ideas on controlling your cards and the floor, how to change strategy from runes/attack to honors, how to use certain cards to speed up the game, etc.

Have a look at that, it might explain many times the why of the loss (and yes sometimes luck just prevails).

btw sorry for the guy who lost with my with a tie
My first time of a tie!
