I wasn't too sure about this one when it first came out, but I'm so glad I ended up buying it... =oD

Totally worth checking out while it's free!

A game with lots of potential, but really hampered by not being thought through properly. Why is it in portrait mode? Portrait games needing two-handed control are uncomfortable and awkward - even for people with fairly small hands like me - and the controls are fiddly and unintuitive.

There's no need for either problem - the game area is such that it could easily fit on a landscape screen with zero modification, and several games have already demonstrated how you should control a platformer with only left/right/jump on a touchscreen.

Here's a quick mockup of a much better Firetop Adventure. Note: I haven't changed the size of any elements in any way, just moved them around and rotated them.

For control, you have the arrows for left and right, and if you press both of them you jump (try either of the :Shift: games to see how well it works). If you really want a separate jump button for going straight up, there's plenty of space above the direction buttons if you move the cloud ones up a bit. As a bonus the game now suits right-handed players and lefties equally well.

Obviously there's also now plenty of space available for making the score bar a bit better looking too (bigger text etc).

I trust you've played the game? Good comment though, and as said in the games release thread a landscape view will be used in Firetop 2, if it gets made, but the play area would fill the screen. Incidentally, the software used to create this game doesnt support multi-touch very well at the moment, so pressing both the direction buttons to jump would be out of the question, which would kind of blow a hole in your suggestion and is the main reason the controls are as they are I'll add that feedback from those that have played the game has been positive about the portrait mode.
