I love Kairosoft, but I feel kind of done with games such as this one. It's just not exciting anymore to place buildings of specific types next to each other in order to get bonuses.

Are there any interesting new mechanics in this one that might renew my interest?

I feel the EXACT same as you. Not exciting anymore. At all. The only game I really liked was Game Dev Story. All the other ones after that got progressively more and more boring IMO.

Awwwww. You just *know* you want this game...

Actually I'm passing on this as well (for now). What I'm really waiting to be released in the one where you play a shopkeeper in a town like in a RPG and your customers are the adventurers killing monsters just outside of town. I think I'd dig that.

Oh, and Game Dev Story 2. Goes without saying.

ALL Kairosoft games eventually go down to 99 cents at one point (and I still probably won't be getting it then).

Yes, really looking forward to Game Dev Story 2 as well!

Already played through the Japanese version, but this was one of my fave Kairosoft games. It's similar to Pocket Academy in the overall mechanics, but there's a lot of new stuff too like crafting, walking distance, land value etc that make this one different.
If you want a little more info on the game you can find a lot here..

When I saw this, I immediately figured it was for the Japanese version! Wow, interesting to see it hit the US (I think this was one I didn't think would ever hit because of the Japanese themes not neccessarily mixing with US).

I don't want a signature.

Maybe that's why there is that "Oh!" in the title, to properly register the surprise of this release.

That said, were I playing this and someone asked me what I was playing, I would orgasmically yell out the Oh! and mumble the Edo Towns part.

the reason for the 'oh" in the title is this.

Game Impressions

I'm really enjoying this one. I would say it offers more than Pocket Academy offered over and above Hot Springs Story, if that makes sense. Some systems are similar, like combos thankfully, but others are new. Overall yield dictates your progress and this is a composite of a number of factors, including buildings and people. Townspeople have a greater emphasis in this title, it seems. Best of all, the game takes place in feudal Japan, complete with the ownership of a giant castle. Kairosoft rarely disappoints and Oh! Edo Towns carries forward that fine tradition.
