Its not a tower defense type of game if you're referring to that. You do however need to defend yourself by blasting everything to tiny pieces, and get as much points as possible
There's a strategic element, where you'll have to consider to destroy as much enemies as possible or saving your special weapons ammo for when you're getting swarmed.

How are the controls ? I presume you constantly fire, do you slide your finger along the bottom to move the tank back and forth ?

yeah it's constantly fire (with different weapons), and the occassional "Nuke". You can't move the tank. This decison was made so that we could have all the focus on firing and aiming and make that the best possible experience!
