Hidden Gems (January - February, 2013)
Every few months, I find some games that may be overlooked by many, and so, want to shine the spotlight on them.
This endless runner type of game is a cross between Fruit Ninja and Temple Run. It is very easy to acquire the choicest of equipment, and you don't have to spend any money if you choose. This game is highly addictive. Definitely worth a try, as Banzai Blade has that "just one more time" feel to it.
Chain of Thought
This puzzle game is super easy to learn and super fun to play. Each puzzle is a journey for the mind. Travel from “pig skin” to “texas ranger” along this word chain: “pig>skin>walker>texas>ranger.”
You never have to do any nasty typing. Just tap the words in the word pool to complete the Chain of Thought.
This game is great to play solo, but where it truly shines is when you complete against someone else.
In this bizarre and macabre game, you test your reaction time by trying to evade the guillotine blade. To play the game simply place your finger on guillotine circle and wait for 3,2,1 & Go count. After the Go count, remove your finger as soon as blade drops. The longer you wait till the blade falls the higher the score. Also if you remove your finger to early then the game ends so timing is essential. Similar to Chain of Thought, the game shines when you play against an opponent or in Multiplayer mode. Multiplayer mode allows you to play against other players at any time for free. Automatically find and play against other Finger Slayer fans, and see who has the faster reflex!
My son loves this interactive storybook, which is a unique interpretation of the classic tale of "Little Red Riding Hood". Everything is told exclusively through animation, music, and interactivity - so kids and parents can tell the story in their own way without the use of text or narration. In this adventure, you navigate through lush environments filled with enchanting illustrations and memorable music... all made with thoughtful attention to detail. Young children will also delight in helping Lil' Red discover tons of hidden surprises.
Another app that my son loves. This app focuses on the story of Little Luna: The Moon Guardian. One day the sun stopped shining and a bright light appeared. Little Luna followed the bright light towards the surface of the earth in search for answers. During her quest she will see mountains covered with snow and caves filled with adventure. Using the light to her advantage, she can clear obstacles and solve puzzles. It is up to you to help her find the way. Will she find the answers she's looking for? Well… it is up to you to find out.

Nighty Night, Little Sheep! HD
"Nighty Night, Little Sheep!" is the perfect App for a daily go-to-sleep ritual with sweet music and elegant narration. All around the house the lights go out, and even the animals in the barn are tired. But who puts them to bed? Who turns out the lights in their stalls? That is the task for small children aged 1-4. Watching all the animals go to sleep is a lovely way to set the mood for bedtime.
Seven Little Words
If you enjoy crossword puzzles, word finds, and anagram games, you're going to love 7 Little Words! Each bite-size puzzle consists of 7 clues, 7 mystery words, and 20 letter groups. Find the mystery words by deciphering the clues and combining the letter groups. 7 Little Words is FUN, CHALLENGING, and EASY TO LEARN.
In White Out, you navigate your way through a snowy forest without a map before the worst of winter sets in. White Out opens up the door to a new genre of iOS games that concentrate on artistic and emotional expression through a unique story, art, music and stunning graphics.
Navigate your way out of the woods to your village before the worst of winter comes and you are snowed in. Unfortunately the early snow has covered up the trail that you used to get there, so you must find your way through the forest without a map, operating on intuition and clues from the surroundings. With fifteen maze like levels, the challenge never ends.
The meditative game play and peaceful soundtrack by classical composer Erik Satie drive home the feeling of being lost in a blizzard. This video game holds its own as an artistic experience.
I played this game for the first time this past weekend, and it is addictive and challenging, plus the music adds to the feeling of isolation and desolation. Definitely worth a try!!!
