App description: "Rootwork is atmospheric, aesthetically pleasing and full of mystique." -- Casual Gameplay @ jayisgames.com
"[Rootwork is] an unsettling game, rooted in mysticism and darkness, and the creepiness weaves its way into the mechanics of the thing almost unseen." - Touch Arcade, 4 Star Review.
"Rootwork is a solidly built, psychologically disturbing, yet strangely inviting game." - kellogthoughts.com

You are lost. Lost in the woods. But this is no ordinary forest. Malevolent spirits stalk these woods, strange stick sculptures decorate its trees, and something evil hovers at the edge of your vision, unseen and yet powerful. She is the dark heart of the woods, and She taunts you as you flee deeper into Her depths.

Use your Talisman cards to escape the Menaces and Evil Spirits that will hound you as you try to seek shelter at a Site and remember your way out. As you defeat the Four Terrors, Ruin, Blight, Snare, and Mourne, voice-acted videos will tell their stories. After the final video in each series, a new mini-game based on the Evil Spriit's life will unlock. Rootwork contains a total of five card games, all of which can be unlocked strictly by playing the main game.

Rootwork features:

A Sophisticated Card Game with challenging and fast card play using a matching system with a few surprises designed to make you feel lost in the woods.
Big, unadorned, beautiful cards filled with original artwork at the highest possible resolution. The ambience of the forest is supplemented with original music.
Eight different characters, each with a slightly different game play. Four of these characters must be unlocked via achievements.
Twelve short films fully voice acted that tell the story of the Evil Spirits in the woods, unlocked by achievements, that culminate in a final revelation about She.
The Hoodoo Mans notebook, in which he has recorded the Rules to the game and an encyclopedia of cards.
A full tutorial, taught by the Hoodoo Man's son Lucas, that shows you how to escape the woods.
Four card games unlocked by playing the Main Game, each with its own tutorial video:
- Ruin's Run - Ruin was tortured by the men of her village. Help her flee them to reduce her strength!
- Blight's Decay - Blight's cultists want to convert your friends with Slime! Defend them with Honor!
- Snare's Solution - The soul of Snare's wife is trapped in the Woods. You can free her by crafting and burning incense!
- Mourne's Lament - Mourne was forgotten by everyone she loved. Remember her to weaken the grip of She.
The conundrum of the She card. She is always nearby, ready to help you escape. Do not trust Her! Do not let her help you. She will betray you!
A puzzle mini-game, where you can unlock a powerful card if youve been listening.
An achievement system that lets you unlock helpful cards with unique artwork that make the game easier as you progress.

Rootwork is a Universal app with a simple business model: buy the game, put it on all your devices, and enjoy the game. No points or coins or hearts to buy.

I love board/card games but I'm not quite sure about this one, I'll have to do some research before I think about buying it.

I just saw this one while browsing in AppShopper. Looks really good but hoping for some impressions first. I'm not entirely sure what they mean by a sophisticated card game. From the pictures and description it doesn't look like a tcg, but maybe more like the lotr LCG?

Hey, mates, we don't ask for TOFFT...

Hi, you seemed to be lost on the Internets.
This is TouchArcade, where 2$ for a game is too much, 5$ is an outrage, and 10$ or more is putting sugar in their car tanks whilst killing puppies.

Ok, long time lurker, figured I'd TOFTT for my first post. I'll put up a description of gameplay in about an hour or so.

I'd TOFTT but damn, I've nowhere near enough room ATM on my iPad. Looks nice though. Beats the usual dragons/classic fantasy artwork found in other CCGs and the one payment ethic is my cup of tea.

This looks like a real good game. Games on ios are just getting so good if I was Sony I'd be terribly worried. I used to spend all my time on my pc/ps 3 gaming now its the other way around.

I've been playing Talisman a lot today and am still learning Eclipse but this has my gaming mouth watering.

If theres music and some voice overs I'll find it very hard to resist. Atmosphere is everything in a game like this. Looks really good.

In essence it's a match cards in your hand to one of the three threats on the table to nullify the threats until all are gone in order to get a point. Three points and you win.

In practice it is quite a bit more. Multiple decks are involved, each of which affect gameplay in a unique manner. The mood set in the game is pervasive. There is no standard iconography such as forward, back, exit, etc buttons. These are instead replaced with pictures that fit the voodoo like theme of the game. The cards all rely on unique icons instead of words to indicate what they are and what affect they have on gameplay. If you do not play the tutorial you will be lost.

Most importantly, I'm finding it enjoyable, and am looking forward to playing it some more. I'd buy it again if I had to make the choice all over again.
