We'll be sending the beta out to stage 1 tonight, and stage 2 later in the week. For now we'd greatly appreciate all of your suggestions & critiques of our current iOS icon: Large: Device sized: (btw, we'll count all of this feedback towards the iTunes gift card rewards for the beta )
Cool. Regarding feedback about the icon, I like the purple in the corner but as for the teal in the background, it doesn't stand out. In fact, to be honest, it looks a little boring. I wouldn't mind if you incorporated a little action into the icon. EDIT: Perhaps a dark/bright red would be a better background. EDIT 2: btw, Purple and orange don't go well together.
It looks like the icon tried to fit in so many things at once that it becomes confusing. Not a huge fan of it, would like to see a more simple icon.
I loved the original icon for it's simplicity. Perhaps the new icon could be like that but with the new icon background?
I have installed the build, but I have no idea what's the aim of this game. I can touch anywhere to shoot or shoot a big ball with 2 fingers. But then?
Well, if it is anything like the original, you have to shoot the balls to repel the other balls away. Basically to prevent them from hitting your little cannon.
In infinite mode the goal is to survive as possible without your cannon being hit. To do this you must push the falling balls and blocks to the side with your cannon. At the end of each level you will get a time score which is then converted to balls (this UI isn't final yet). These balls allow you to unlock more cannons, themes, etc. What do you think the best way to explain this to the user is? A in-game tutorial, a help button on the main screen, something else?
An in-game tutorial with what to do and what to avoid, or a small video to introduce the basic things about the game play would be better.
Include a small simple tutorial at the beginning, but make sure to make it a level and not a video. That way you get an exact feel for the gameplay and controls. Plus if you were to forget something you can always go back and play it again. As for the logo: it is to complicated. You stuffed to much into it. Keep the cannon and shrink down the purple ball. It is taking up to much room. Another question: is there any kind of power ups that you could pick up while playing? Like maybe one that makes your bullets faster/stronger. And there could be bad power ups (power downs?) as well that you would have to shoot away from yourself and if they hit you then you shoot slower, balls come down faster, etc.
The icon looks really stunning. Since I haven't played the game yet I have no clue how much of it relates to the game itself(which is very important in an icon). Still a thumbs up for design however.
Personally, I feel that the cannon is not a necessity on the icon. Someone who is totally new to the game won't be able to tell that thing is a cannon anyway until they read the game description and look at the screenshots. An icon should be a mini summary of what the game is and should look engaging.
