Lol yeah. Especially since it's being compared to James Cameron who wrote movies like Aliens Terminator 2 and Titanic. Now that guy can write a good story.

November 23, 2009 - Gameloft doesn't play favorites with its projects, but you can just tell that it considers Avatar one of its main games for 2009. Obviously based on the upcoming James Cameron film, Gameloft has been developing Avatar for over a year, working closely with Lightstorm the entire time. Lightstorm, in fact, not only offered full use of many 3D models and other movie assets, but it also approved the storyline, which does not run parallel to the film. Instead, Avatar takes place twenty years prior to the events in the movie.

You are the first marine to take part in the Avatar project. Through this and the use of one of the Navi from the movie as the narrator, Gameloft's Avatar does indeed tie into the plot. Although you are a marine, you do not actually play one in the game. Instead, you are a limber Navi, expert with the traditional Navi weapons like a bow and staff. (However, at some point in Avatar, you earn two giant hand cannons that are pulled out of who-knows-what orifice when equipped.) As you eliminate beasts or enemy soldiers, you bank wisps that are like the orbs of God of War. Use them to upgrade skills, such as health and gun power. There are 21 skills to augment.

The majority of Avatar is an action-platformer. Across 15 stages (Gameloft promises that each lasts approximately 15 minutes), you divide your time between slamming dangerous animals and mech-suits with a staff or guns and performing acrobatic feats of derring-do. Gameloft does not want to make the game too tough for casual players, so some of the platforming sequences have fail-safe measures, like the inability to slip off a vine your Navi slides down to reach a new area. However, about two hours into Avatar, the game goes open-world. You enter a Navi village and run quests for the other Navi, such as collecting little animals or running races on an elegant six-legged horse creature. This is a nice way to break up the jump-combat-jump-combat formula, as does the Banshee flying stage where you must shoot down enemies and rocks, as well as collect pick-ups.

So, where does he keep those guns when not in use?

Gameloft's desire to make sure Avatar is accessible to casual gamers and fans of the film that might not necessarily be versed in console games lead it to offer additional help features, such as an auto-aim that immediately moves to the closest, most powerful enemy. You also have a compass like the Prince of Persia – a bright orb extends from the Navi to show you the way to the next goal.

Although a few weeks away from release, Avatar seems pretty locked into place, so I feel quite safe saying that this is indeed one of Gameloft's most attractive action games yet. (Sorry, but it's hard not to see the car models in Gameloft's upcoming GT Racing as a new benchmark for iPhone graphics.) According Avatar's producer, each stage in Avatar uses more textures than the entire 2008 Gameloft release Hero of Sparta. The game pops with color, such as the "dream hunt" stage where you look into a terrible future for planet Pandora, full of bright greens and purples. Flashing images of horror hang in the air as you fill the sky with bullets.

Avatar will flank the movie on December 15. Look for a full review of the game then.

Sounds like Gameloft really put maximum effort into this. I'm really looking forward to playing this! (and of course seeing the movie in IMAX 3D!!)

Can't wait to see the movie - I reckon the whole thing will be very much in style of his older action movies, which were brilliantly made!

..and of course I'll get the game too - looks promising enough!

I'm definitely getting this game (well if the preview is any indication of the full game). I'm also getting the PC game on Dec 1st which runs in actual stereoscopic 3D (w/ nVidia 3D Vision glasses in my case).

Funny note: My team submitted a small Avatar countdown app for the game and the movie w/ trivia but Apple rejected it due to copyright issues. Oh well. At least I have my personal countdown timer.

Everyone is busy at looking at the other gameloft games, but I was a Hero Of Sparta fan, so I'll be waiting for this one.
I hope they are still gonna release this on December 15

I really like the looks of this game. Looks like it has polished graphics and good gameplay with some sweet things here and there like that part where the guy is sliding on the tree branches. The colors will make it a very unique experience it looks like.

I think the trailer is somewhat carrying a shadow information about the game. I must say the game looks awesome but the trailer really didn't do Great Justice like other Gameloft Trailers. I almost ordered the Console version but stopped knowing that it will be released for iDevices. I guess people will be surprised when they see the actual game play.

The reason for that eggz is we are waiting patiently for Gameloft to drop the holiday hammer on all of us. I've got a feeling the next two or three weeks are going to be very interesting with Gameloft and a ton of games getting released maybe even some they have made public yet.

It has been in development for over a year, in cooperation with Mr. Cameron and the folks at Fox. The assets and artwork were passed along, as well as ideas and guidance. But don't expect the typical licensed game version of the movie here. This is an original story with original environments and characters, and takes place 20 years before the events of the movie.

Every once in awhile someone takes movie games seriously. We dig that. But to put this much work into an iPhone game? That's serious business.

Avatar on the iPhone looks good. Apparently, it's a polygon -pushing monster. Gameloft told me that there are more textures in one level of this game than there are in whole other games of theirs, with the relatively good-looking title Hero of Sparta given as an example. Lush colors and nice enemy and character models impress. The whole game lights up, literally, with really sweet looking lighting and luminescent effects. Avatar seems to be pushing up the graphical bar for iPhone games.
