They are just cleverly named currency packs. The doubler is what you need if you are considering IAPs, which i recommend if you got the game for a buck. Im not a huge defense game fan, but this easily got me addicted to it, much like the first PVZ did.

Awesome game, I just need to utilize my traps better. I like how each level can be used better with different traps, and the different worlds being different styles of castle. Great job.
Definitely a great deal for a buck. I had never heard of this game until this sale. It's easily worth full price.
I finally picked it up during this sale, and I purchased the doubler while I was at it. Loving the game so far, really really good. Well worth the cost and I'll recommend this to others for sure.
I've completed it without buying any Iaps and without a great deal of grinding (and any that there was was fun) so it's not something id worry about.
Sorry for the late reply, I've made it 35 levels in, and perfectly done 29 of them. I don't think I needed the coin doubler, but after playing and enjoying it I thought it would be nice to do. I'm a pretty big cheapskate, so me getting the doubler is like a gold seal of approval lol.
