That's right. We had no time to put that feature a bit more forward, but there's a swipe control mode.

The feedback so far is that it is not as precise than the buttons but people seem to like it. It is kinda cool because you can control your character with a single finger, without having to lift it from the screen. So if you want to jump - dash - dive, you end up doing an inverted U with your finger.

I must say I'm surprised. As someone who is usually looking for the most hardcore (deep, sophisticated, pornographic, whatever connotations you associate with the expression ;) ) gaming experience for iOS, and who only found Jetpack Joyride mildly, briefly entertaining, I was not expecting to enjoy Don't Run With A Plasma Sword.

But I am. Quite a lot. I'll probably still play it, at least a little, even after tonight's releases of Infinity Blade II and The Bard's Tale (though possibly not after Prevail is out, but with my limited time for gaming, even on the move, that goes for most games ;) ). The nice upgrade system, the charm, the responsive controls and resulting nice action, and the fact that there are some waypoints and goals (bosses, levels, etc) mixed in with the endless running, all makes for an experience that seems much more substantial than jumping the nth chasm and taking out the nth enemy on my way towards another nthnthnthnth meters' distance.

In my limited experience (Jetpack Joyride, Monster Dash, a few more), Don't Run might be the king of endless runners.

But devs, what the fudge is up with the "Don't kill a girl in a shower with a plasma sword" loading text? Yes, I do get the reference, but it is still creepy as a really, REALLY creepy thing :)

Is it because your sword would short out with the water and possibly electrocute yourself whilst you are doing the killing, or is it simlpy that they do not recommend the killing?

Just wanted to re-iterate that this is a stand out game from all of the other "runner" type games. It get's better and better with a good balance between XP upgrades to your skills and the challenge in the Story levels - great progression!

As other's have mentioned, controls are spot on and everything just feels right. I like that there is some variety between stages and I like the twist of adding boss fight's to an endless runner, it actually works!

I also like that you've added XP challenges in the endless modes (i.e. - run X distance, destroy X enemies, etc). It adds a little variety and incentive to keep running and playing.

For those even remotely into the "runner" genre - get this. It's a steal for $1.00 and I think I've found a nice replacement since getting burned out on Jetpack Joyride. I almost regret that this came out a day before IB2 since I'm dying to play that as well.

    Great job XperimentalZ!

Am I the only one having this annoying click sound repeating in the background music?
Aart from that, the game is really a nice runner platform one. A buck well spent! Reccomended.

No, the annoying clicking is apparently there on purpose to add a "retro" effect to the sound in the title screen only. I don't like it either.

Add another one to the "get rid of it" pile, dev! :p

I'm really liking this. I really like how when the game ends the title comes up - DON'T RUN WITH A PLASMA SWORD! It's like hey we warned you. LOL!

Thanks!! The game was definitely targeted for hardcore players at first. Then we realized that the game might be more accessible than we tought, probably because the player can compensate by developing his skills. In other words, perhaps it will take him twice the time to beat the game but he should be able to. The first half of the game is fairly easy too. Time will tell how accessible the game is...

About the reference to the horror movie Psycho, we thought it was funny and that if fitted the theme. However if people find it offensive we can remove it or change it to 'alien girl' hehe. The game was supposed to be much more gory at first, so perhaps this is sticking out a bit.

That said, we're extremely glad of the players reactions so far! I'm suprised to not see more impressions in iTunes so far, but those will come in time I suppose :D.

Found some time to play the game just now. Somehow, it turned into an hour.

First thing I noticed was how well the controls worked. The slide and and jump buttons are spaced perfectly apart, and the jump button registers how long you hold it down. Also, you can go into a slide as soon as you land by holding the slide button in the air. Great work there.

The levels have quite a bit of platforming in them, especially as you get further into the game. Lots of enemies to kill, stars to collect, power-ups, etc. Was cruising along until I got to level 1-6. I think it took me more than 5 tries to get through it. Glad to see the game gets quite challenging. The boss fight was a nice break from the platforming levels and fairly easy. Definitely a nice touch.

As usual for survival-based games, my favorite part is the upgrade system. Not only are there equips to unlock, which give perks in addition to cosmetic changes, you can also upgrade your character. There are actually 10 "skills" you can upgrade 5 times each I think. Some are combo attacks, while others are perks. Awesome seeing some RPG elements. Of course, you have a currency that you earn by playing through the game. This actually comes in the form of XP. You get XP by killing monsters in the campaign levels, beating campaign levels, and playing survival mode. The best part though? There aren't any one-time perks/bonuses. You'll want to buy the first upgrade for each of the basic skills as soon as you can.

Of course, the game has iAP packs for lazy players to get ahead with. They're actually quite cheap though, ranging only from $0.99 to $2.99. Clearly, they're not there to trick anyone into buying them. Instead, it's a way of thanking the developer if you feel like $0.99 was much less than the game was worth.

The graphics and music/sound effects suit the game perfectly. It's the usual cartoony theme set somewhere in the future. Really like the humor though. There's funny lines during the pauses and well, the whole premise is pretty hilarious. There are four worlds (28 levels) and 4 survival modes. Tons of content.

Endless runners/survival games have been one of the only types of casual games I'm actually a fan of, and I have to say, this one is up there in the top 3. Can't wait to play more. It's something you can play quickly in the midst of this week's AAA releases.

    Highly recommended.

Yes, I think you might be guilty of blurring the lines between the hard and the soft core ;) I'll be occupying some of the emptiness in your iTunes review space shortly. (Gods know I would do so more often for games if Apple implemented landscape view for the text input field in the review function of the App Store...)

As for the creepy loading tip, while not directly offensive, I do find it... quite out of touch with the rest of the mood and theme of the game. Don't Run With A Plasma Sword is downright charming and quirky (and I'm glad you went with charm over goriness for this one ;) ), and the loading tip just pulls me RIGHT out of that pleasant mood, and temporarily ruins immersion. (The fact that the expression "immersion" even comes up when discussing a side-scrolling endless runner with a 50s' aliens theme is quite the compliment ;) )

But while I would like to see that reference removed, I'd like to see even more loading tips in future updates to make up for it ;) Never thought I'd request loading screen text as a feature, but they are both entertaining and sets the mood in a great way, and do a lot to advertise the unique traits and personality of DRWAPS. Perhaps add a few whenever you patch the game, as a ritual of patch submittal ;)

Nothing to add, but it's a nice quote :p

Agreed, and we probably should organize a little contest about it, I know that people would come up with great one-liners :D

We're going to need a bigger plasma sword.
I have a bad feeling about this plasma sword.
Life is like a box of plasma swords.
I will find a plasma sword, no matter what occurs!

Damn, this game is really addicting.
My only suggestion would be to maybe touch up the artwork on the main character. Right now he doesn't seem to really fit in with the other artwork in the game, haha.
Also the game icon is somewhat bland imo.

    (in the holiday spirit)
    Dashing through a foe...

It's actually a pretty fun runner. I like how the Story and Endless modes are in no way linked together so you are free to focus one game type or the other if you prefer.
