What?? You just made that up. Please show me where you read that. If I may remind you, the official name of the game is Wolfenstein 3D. And is definitely not considered a 2D game. What's wrong with you?
Think you're in the minority there. John Carmack always talks about the 3d engine he made for Doom. Articles in magazines/websites talk about Doom being 3d, wikipedia as well (okay that doesnt mean its gospel) but Doom etc are commonly known as 3d first person games
Well its wikipedia so again it doesnt mean its the truth but the wikipedia articles i'm looking at all mention it as 3d... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-person_shooter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom_%28video_game%29 Always thought of these as 3d games
From the article on 2.5D: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2.5D Maybe they're saying it used 3D and 2.5D techniques? I don't know
You can't take stuff out of context. Only the sprites are "2.5D" because they are actually 2D in a 3 Dimensional space. The game is still 3D though. You do realize that games today still have 2D sprites, right??? Like smoke, for example, or grass. Does that make Skyrim a 2.5D game? According to you, it does. -_- Emotive, you still didn't point me into any direction (a link) where I can read that Wolfenstein and Doom are 2D games. I can tell you in advance that you won't find anything, so don't even try. You must be new to gaming.
I can't tell if you're trolling or not. There's literally no such thing as a 2D fps. In order for it to be in first person, there has to be a 3D world.
Don't think so limited... And don't think of Super Mario games, as those of course can't be first person. I've played a Helicopter simulator the other time, called Infiltrator running in the c64 emulator app and fits my description... This breaks your argument. And let's not forget the countless amount of old school RPGs with 2D graphics, but those are turn-based. And don't forget Year Walk, which I mentioned in the op. FYI, I'm not looking for fps games (fps stands for first person shooter), but for any game that is in first person view.
But see, this game is 3D. I mean, I could very well be wrong, but if you can fly around in more directions than a straight line, that makes it 3D. This game looks a lot like war commando (if I remember the games name right) as the graphics seem very similar, however you already shot that game down, saying it was 3D. Are you talking about 2D sprites or 2D gameplay?
