Frogatto is a fun-filled run & jump style 2D platformer with beautiful hand drawn pixel art, an amusing storyline, and scene setting music. It hearkens back to the days of 16 bit consoles, but the entire game is original and fresh. Frogatto has just been submitted to Apple for inclusion in the app store. Regular updates and improvements are planned. The PC and Mac version of the game also comes with a powerful level editor and we will consider the best fan made content for use in future updates. The colours make me think (for some reason) of Sega Rally. Really crisp blue skies and fluffy clouds. Looking forward to it. Edit: had a quick flick through the blog, really interesting read.
Eventually it will be $4.99, but we're planning an introductory sale of $1.99, so look to get in early! The level editor will only be available on Mac/Windows. We are planning lots of updates, and a level editor for iPhone/iPad (probably more iPad) may happen in future based on what fans of the game express is most important to them.
Just tried the tutorial level of the Mac version. It's freaking beautiful -- like a long lost SNES title sprinkled with contemporary-gaming dust. If the iPhone version is as good, this will be the best platformer in the App Store.
Years you say? What are you: an opposum*? *An opposum lives, on average, 50 weeks. From an opposum's perspective, a couple of weeks is like "years"
Hahaha! Thanks for the thorough explanation. ;D Glad to hear that you think this may be the best platformer on the App Store.
It's been a while since I attempted a joke with a footnote. Glad the effort is appreciated. There are some very good platformers in the App Store (Giana Sisters, Babylonia Twins, etc), as well as several attempts at Mario clones. This one plays something like the original Rayman, but with a depth to the narrative and gameplay that makes it a bit like an RPG.
Wow! From the creators of BoW! Can't miss it! Will it be universal? or are you planning an Ipad version?
Definitely appreciated the joke and insight my friend. I've tried almost all the platformers I could find in the App Store. Just never been fully satisfied, not entirely sure why. This one could well fill the void. Hope you continue to post about your experiences with the game.
