Not really. You start off with 20 mushrooms, which can be used for various things. Mushrooms can be used for things like energy recharge/doubler, experience gain boost for a certain amount of time, name change, equip-able items, in-game cash, and rare monsters. There isn't an absolute need to buy IAP as you can do just fine training on your own. There are no "over-powering" IAP items, it's a game of skill, and a little bit of luck.

How about Tacticial Soldier: Undead Rising in the Strategy RPG section?

    Nice list.

Can someone explain to me the difference between hack and slash vs Krpg?

    Thanks.

Some of the sub-genres bleed over but here is my logic. A hack n slash game emphasizes melee combat (albeit sometimes repetitive button mashing) to a greater extent than KRPGs.

KRPGs emphasize specialized character builds (multiple classes, more elaborate skill tree). KRPGs also differ from hack 'n slash in that KRPGs are usually top down and characterized by lots of grinding or fetch quests with an emphasis on item collection/use. Some KRPG classes such as fighters might operate similarly to a hack 'n slash dynamic.

Hack 'n slash games are not necessarily top down and have more emphasis on melee combat than KRPGs but may be more one-dimensional on the side of action/adventure button tapping. Hack 'n slash games emphasize violence with little other goal or driving plot (beat everyone up till you get to the Devil then beat him up too a la Diablo).

I placed both these categories next to one another because I anticipated some question about the difference and it is open for discussion. There are some games that might sit on the fence between these two categories (such as Aurum Blade). Is this an agreeable distinction between these two sub-genres? I can amend/combine sub-genres on community consensus.

Edit: I added Devil May Care 4 Refrain to the list under hack 'n slash.

    Done. Thanks.

Thanks for pointing that out. Somehow that seems to be the case although the HTML script seems to correctly link KRPG on first page to the KRPG post (post #5). I will look into it. If I can figure out how I would like to rework to links on the first page to direct the user to that point within the thread rather than just the solo post.

Please let me know if there's anything missing, I appreciate it.

First of all this thread is amazing! It has been very useful to find RPGs for iOS. I first started looking for something like this last year and was thankful to find lists like this on this site and a few others.

I've started building out a database of RPG games for iOS using the data I found here and on another thread. The site is called iOSRPG.com (http://iosrpg.com) and is still under heavy development.

Big things you can do with iosrpg.com include:
    - List of RPG's by type (like turn-based, action, puzzle, etc)
    - mix and match filters like type, device, price, etc to easily find the game you want
    - Up-to-date pricing information, collected daily for all games in the system
    - Add games to your Owned list and Want list
    - Track price changes on games using the Price List
    - Rate and Comment on games in the system

I've only got about 150 setup so far, but I'm adding to the database every day and by the end of the week I think I'll have 300-400 in the system. I plan to have some other things on the site in the coming weeks like featured games, reviews, etc.

My goal is for iOSRPG.com to be as useful as possible for RPG lovers like myself to quickly find games for iOS devices. I hope some of you will check it out and give me some feedback to whether you like the system or not, ideas to improve, etc. I think it could grow into a huge resource for RPG games for iOS.

To undeadcow - I added your original list to the About System page on iOSRPG.com because your list has been extremely helpful in populating the site.

To everybody else - I'm looking for volunteers to help add to the database. I plan to add more things like tags and a better search engine as we go along, so if anybody is interested, please contact me at [email protected]

If anybody is interested, iosrpg.com now has 341 games in the system and a lot of ways to find and filter them out. Prices are being gathered and checked daily and the itunes rating for each game is now being tracked.

You're welcome! I'm extremely grateful for the work you have already put into organizing the games.

The iOSRPG.com rating system is now broken down by Graphics, Music, Story, Gameplay and Controls.

Oh no, I created a Miscellaneous type RPG

I was glad to see Brigands and Barbarians on the list, and for the record I was trying to create something different, so the category seems right to me as would Turn-based. Hopefully I can work my way up to experimental... What an amazing list!

    Brigands and Barbarians [

[ - Miscellaneous type RPG (might categorize later)

    Added to main listing:
    Kingsburg (board game)
Ash II: Shadows [Silver / Gold editions] (JRPG)
    Time of Heroes (SRPG)
    Dominion (card based)
    Fantasy Chronicle (JRPG)
Epic TD (tower defense hybrid; still considering if valid RPG)
King of Poker (card based, rip-off of sword & poker)
Divine Right (SRPG or just turn based strategy?)

Brigands and Barbarians is hard to classify. I more recently lumped it together with JRPGs because of it's JRPG-like turn based combat but despite owning it I haven't gotten enough playtime.

    Added to main listing:

Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land (SRPG)
    SlotMonster (arcade hybrid)
Crystal War Blood Field (tower defense hybrid)
My Little Monster (monster training sim, will list under monster collecting)
    The Quest: Mithril Horde II
    Dungeon Healing Master (puzzle hybrid?)

If anyone is following the JRPG Gailardia series they just released part 6 in japanese only but I think there's an effort to translate more of the franchise.

    Will do, thanks.

    360 RPGs?

What are some games that are 360-degree RPGs? Examples are Mage Gauntlet, CrimsonHeart, and Crimson Gem Saga. Any others?

RPGs with only 4 directions to move (i.e. left, right, up, down) are all too similar (EX: Zenonia, Inotia, etc.) and I would rather not play one more of those.

    Added to main listing:

    Grinsia (JRPG by Kemco)
Hammer Heroes (arcade whack-a-mole RPG hybrid)
Keep of the Lich-Lord HD (iPad, text based gamebook style)
RPG Slots HD (arcade casino slots combat only RPG)
Mini RPG (vague gameplay, possibly arcade mix)
    Minatour Maze (roguelike)
Legend of Evil (action RPG, questionable length)
    Brand New Boy (action RPG)
    Battleloot Adventure (line drawing style?)
Adventure Bar Story (JRPG crafting mix)
    Wizard's Choice (text based gamebook)
Mars Defense: Asteroids RPG (questionable if actually RPG, pending)
Gamebook Adventures 8: Infinite Universe (text based gamebook)

Although I need to update main list I think all the iOS RPGs I know are listed somewhere in this thread.

I'm drawing a blank on 360-degree RPGs, I don't think they're very common on iOS.
