Its the PvZ formula, but it does add upgradeable spells into the mix, and it has a survival mode. Its missing several coats of polish when compared to pvz, coming closest in the graphics but falling shorter in other areas, but at free its definitely worth a download for fans of the genre. The survival mode has a nice feature -- your second, third, fourth of a unit placed and still alive costs more, and you can switch your units between waves. Keeps it a bit interesting, although the lack of polish still manifests itself in various ways, including lack of high scores. There are some negatives. The English is so distractingly bad that the unit descriptions are almost indecipherable. Also, by level 15, the game is hard, and while hard is normally good, its always a little problematic if you dont know if a level is even possible without upgrades. At the same time, upgrades are VERY expensive, presumably to encourage IAP. The more mana upgrade was equivalent to grinding 10 levels; I spent the lion's share of my earned cash on this, with the rest going to the frozen version of the standard shooter and one or two cheap things. The cant jump over it blocker is equivalent to grinding 7.5 levels; more starting mana is equivalent to grinding 5 levels, another slot 2.5 levels. And so on. Which of these do I need to get past level 15, or do I just need to be smarter/quicker about things? ArtNJ Well-Known Member Jul 13, 2009 3,212 29 48 New Jersey #3 ArtNJ, Nov 12, 2011 I cleared the game. It is probably necessary to grind up 100,000 upgrade points, give or take. The .99 IAP is only 40,000 points, but could be considered to help get further along. I think there is 100,000 for 1.99, but you dont want zero grinding...plus that would make the early levels (maybe most of them) way too easy. 100,000 upgrade points probably means redoing somewhere north of 20 levels (possibly as many as 30 if you do no survival). Towards the end you can earn 7-8,000 points from redoing one level, but prior to that its 3,000 for much of the game and a little less once the need to grind first crops up. Unfortunately, survival doesnt yield enough cash to be worth farming, but it is fun. The game definitely has some real challenge to it, and, because of the mix of magic skills, it does not play like a pure p. v. z. clone. I definitely enjoyed clearing it, and there are plenty of logical upgrades to grind for if I want to go further in survival. Indeed, there is an 80,000 point beast that I never unlocked (guessing he is equivalent to the corn-cob cannon but dont really know), and an infinite amount of useful magic upgrades. That said, having cleared the game, there is still no grinding option better than 8k a level, so I would have to redo 10 levels to get that beast. Grind to avoid IAP is one thing, but I feel like the cash drops should be increased. Among other things, survival should yield as much cash per time spent as redoing levels. Recommended at free, if you want an interesting PvZ variant and dont mind a little grinding. Would not recommend IAP, as it either isnt enough, or would blow the game. Definitely not a game where the IAP is finely balanced to not spoil the fun. However, they seem really hard, and I dont know how doable they are without IAP or a massive grind. This is actually a pretty good pvz clone -- the upgradeable magics add a lot to it. If the prices on upgrades were a bit lower, it would be worth .99 easy. As is, its a pretty good freebie if you dont mind a real chunk of grinding, because there is some real strategy to it. ArtNJ Well-Known Member Jul 13, 2009 3,212 29 48 New Jersey #8 ArtNJ, Jan 13, 2012 I gave up on the second of the new levels because I wasnt sure it was possible without grinding up *tons* of cash -- it just seemed so beyond me with my current spells. How much cash did you have to grind to get going on these new levels? On the old levels, you cant grind up more than 8k or so a level. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
