Making a game in 72 hours

Discussion in 'Public Game Developers Forum' started by rhansson, Jan 6, 2010.

  1. Game Name Suggestions (as requested from your Twitter feed): :)

    • Rocket Racer
    • Rocket Rush
    • Sector Zero
    • Astrovoid - Astro (or asteroid) avoider
    • Meteor Mission (not technically correct use of 'meteor' though)
    • Earth Escape (your rocket contains the remnants of humanity and you are rocketing away from the sun as it goes Supernova)
That's all I've got for now.

    Good luck with the game!

It is possible! Guys at Gizmodo did compile an app in 12 hours with 2 man power.

See Finger scale, that is a complete piece of garbage that sold very well that was most likely done in under 72 hours. Not saying your game is garbage by any means, but if you make something that could interest people in that time period (which a working scale on an iPhone would) you could make quite a lot

Damn I remember seeing that app and thinking how awesome & handy it would be if it worked [for obvious reasons ] then I saw the 1k+ 1 star ratings lmao.

5 minutes would be cool but if anyone can do that I'd be pretty surprised :)

Would anyone be up for a similar challenge? Who can make the best iPhone game in 72 hours based on a theme decided by a third part?

I'd leave project 72 as final title.

  10. It takes longer than that to setup the project in the iTunes Developer Portal and configure the code signing! ;)

Project 72 would probably be the best title for the game.

    What about Rocket 72?

    4 guys 1 cup?

    joking :)

  13. Looks great so far guys. A lot can be done in 72 hours. I'd recommend making 72 hours the limit for the feature complete game, then take a short break and spend another day (but no more) tidying up the code and submitting to Apple.

One thought - to activate the shields do you actually have to touch the rocket ship? If so you should rethink that one. You end up putting your finger over the important part of the screen. If it's the only touch based interaction you have, then I'd suggest making a touch anywhere on screen activate the shields - it'll be much easier to control that way (and won't unduly penalize people who insist on touching the rocket...)

Thanks George, we will try to finish everything in this timeframe as our goal was and thanks for the tip with the shield, we will not force you to touch the screen to activate the shields.

    Cheers!

What are you using to develop the game? because it seems that a lot has gotten done!
I think that one of the biggest points of a good game is good graphics and it looks like you've done a great job on that because a game with good gameplay but bad graphics just isn't appealing.

Uhm... I think Carl or Mikael did the graphics...
    I think Mikael did.
And Ivan was working on the gameplay. :)
