Personally I prefer the colorful look hands down. I don't think however that polling these (or other) forums is the right way to attack the question though. You risk ending up with a bland "standard"-look that's just generic enough to neither provoke nor excite anyone. Design by committee is a sure-fire way to blandness. By all means, get feedback about your ideas from people who's judgement you trust but stay true to your own vision.
+1.. The old colors were much better IMO. They were dark and went well with the background, and with what appeared to be a sort of somber theme, which is what I thought you were going for. These are a little too vibrant, and stick out like a sore thumb.
About the art Maybe you can switch between graphical styles in the game. I personally don't need 60fps in all the games I play. Maybe you can add lighting or other effects and sill keep the game running at 30fps. But its your choice really.
I prefer the old colors more, the new ones make the game seem to happy, from your hints, it seams this game is anything but. I agree with the person who said you should have the option to switch between the two. I really can't wait for the release, this is my most anticipated app release, but like everyone else has said, don't rush it. Make it good.
The new colors look like something off a Mario game. They look good in a Mario game, but in this game ehhh... I wasn't that excited about the game before, but at least it looked good.(to me) Now I doubt I'll be getting the game. No offense to the dev. or anybody that likes the game.
While I can understand some thought the original style lacking artistic merit, I think this new style errs far too much toward cartoony (by which I mean too colorful) than it should IMHO. A more subdued palette is in order. The character, for instance, was much more...droid-ish in the original black/white get up. If that lacks color, then perhaps a blue tone would be apt. You're an obvious Metroid fan, so I'll use this example as to how I feel about the current palette: Right now the game looks more Metroid Fusion than Metroid Zero Mission. This isn't exactly for the best.
Agreed. Not to pressure you, but when do you think the game'll be out? I know a lot of us would love to have this on out iDevice. A rough estimate would be nice.
wow looks sweet. Only suggestion I have is that the sounds for jump, hit register, and such are a little harsh and I could imagine getting tired of them
i havent been following this thread but just to make sure, is the game really changing from this: to THIS?! old one is waaay better imo
