D-Day Dice is a lot of fun. It was out briefly, and I got it before it was pulled. It's a little buggy, but absolutely playable. I obviously like Yggdrasil quite a bit, as I have it rated highly. I'm not sure what bugs they're talking about, but on my non-jailbroken iPad 2 I've played many games with absolutely no bugs. I definitely think that Summoner Wars toes the line between board/card game...as I mentioned before, if I were considering that title, it'd make my top 20.
Great list! got most of them with some on my wishlist or added because of your list Never heard of #12 The Jam. I did a search and can't seem to find it? mabe you can steer me in the right direction.
Thanks! The Jam is definitely a hidden gem. Here's the link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-jam/id538791974?mt=8
Anyone played Titan HD? I've had it on my wishlist for a bit, just haven't pulled the trigger yet due to my backlog.
It's good. It sits just outside of my top 20. It seemed complicated at first, but it's really not too difficult once it clicks. I definitely recommend it.
Elder Signs is great, while lighter I also enjoy Neuroshima Hex a lot. Phantom Leader is still on my to buy list, sounds a very clever game but does look a little homely. Looking forward to Talisman, had the first edition board game so would love to have another go. They had better do Space Hulk right too, user generated scenarios sounds awesome, best asymmetrical team type board game I've yet played.
Qin is a good game, but the online is terrible. It would be fine except that after the game ends, the only person who gets to see it is the person that played last. For everyone else the game just disappears off the face of the earth. Very disappointing. I hope the devs fix this. My favorites are: Carcassonne Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer Penny Arcade The Game: Gamers vs Evil Lost Cities Reiner Knizia's Samurai These are all excellent games and with very good iOS translations. Ticket to Ride is a great game, but so messed up on iOS. The only version that has async is the pocket edition, which of course looks terrible on the iPad. Plus the pocket edition doesn't have the live online that the iPad version does. So neither version is ideal. They at least need to add async to the iPad version, and in such a way that it works with the pocket edition.
That's too bad. It's never been an issue for me because like I said in the OP I only play these games solo. I don't know why, but I'm just not a fan of online play.
My current top 20 iOS boardgame conversions, in terms of number of plays: 1. Reiner Knizia's Kingdoms 2. Rener Knizia's Keltis HD 3. Can't Stop 4. Café International 5. Elder Sign Omens HD 6. Scotland Yard 7. Reiner Knizia's Medici HD 8. Small World 9. Ghost Stories 10. Reiner Knizia's Battleline 11. Reiner Knizia's Keltis Oracle 12. Miles Bournes Tintin 13. Forbidden Island 14. Ticket to Ride 15. Reiner Knizia's Through the Desert 16. Reiner Knizia's Qin 17. Kingdom Builder 18. Fealty 19. Operation: Eradicate 20. Hacienda HD
@iPadisGreat: Nice list! I have all of those except Operation Eradicate. I love Knizia titles (I have all of them), but many of them are on the quick/short side so not as many quite crack my top 20. Still, I can respect having that many up there for sure.
Also, do you have Whoowasit? It's a Knizia kid's title, but it's actually a lot of fun and hasn't gotten much exposure.
My list would be: 1.) Phantom Leader 2.) Elder Signs 3.) Battle of the Bulge 4.) Carcassone 5.) Neuroshima Hex & Puzzle - puzzle is the best tutorial ever pure genius. 6.) Forbidden Isle 7.) Ghost Stories 8.) The Jam 9.) Ticket to Ride 10.) Can't Stop And if you want to add card games I'd have to scrap that list.
Board games are my favourite kind of game, and here you have my iOS Top10 (without card games): 10. Caylus 9. Qin 8. Alien Frontiers 7. Elder Sign: Omens 6. Tigris and Euphrates 5. Le Havre 4. Stone Age 3. Battle of the Bulge 2. Small World 1. Carcassonne What do you think about it? Next boardgame to go in this list soon: Agricola.
You guys think Dominion will ever actually make it to iOS? I hope so. I also heard a while back that Race for the Galaxy was coming at some point, that would be awesome. Back to the not-so-cardy games, I'm ridiculously stoked for the update of Small World. My wife and I play the heck outta the gimpy version of Small World, we're gonna love the new one.
Unfortunately it seems that Dominion is doomed to the same crappy implementation that Thunderstone has. It was out very briefly, then pulled. They could make a fortune if they did it right and added all of the expansions as IAP.
If you like Pandemic, the board game, you can download the free, Pandemic: The Fourth Seal. It is supposed to be a direct port, unlike Operation: Eradicate. Unfortunately since I have only seen Pandemic being played on Tabletop, I have not really figured out how to play either Pandemic: The Fourth Seal or Operation: Eradicate... Also to add on, regarding Whoowasit; I have just posted about it in the other thread.
