On the topic of scary/horror/terrifying movies, i'll add a few to the list: - The Thing by John Carpenter. What I really love about this movie is the way you never know who is still a human, and that is a rather terrifying thought in the context of Aliens that mimic human form. - Takeshi Miike has made some rather shocking films, the one that most got me was Audition. Its just so brutal and full on. - Oldboy by Park Chan Wook is a brilliantly made thriller that has some really shocking / scary moments and brilliant ideas in it. The thought of being locked up for 15 years without knowing why is bad enough, but when you combine that with the ending.... - Alien by Ridley Scott. The whole movie has great atmosphere and pacing. Ridley uses every trick in the book to keep building the tension. And the finale with Sigourney in the space suit... - Psycho by Hitchcock. Can't believe none of you said this classic, the ending is truly shocking and disturbing. - Not really horror, but Platoon by Oliver Stone really affected me too. The way the soldiers rape and kill the innocent Vietmonesse women was truly shocking. Oh and on the topic of games, the only games i've played that have come close is the Silent Hill franchise.
@barl - nothing to add but to add that it´s a great post! @Healy yeah sometimes it´s the little things that get at us. while more mentally disturbing than scary, Voice Onrush (Free App I think) really unsettles me to a great extend!
*OUCH* falling from the chair! I wonder why nobody mentiones Chillingos Predators. I KNOW you are supposed to scare humans, but it still scary. Alone the though of Playing a Predator. This is in certain ways much scarier that Aliens vs Predator (2) playing as Predator.
I still can't sleep after playing that game... The badger from Enviro-Bear has been in my nightmares for some time as well... In all seriousness, Fallen EP-1 is about as good as it's going to get right now as far as horror games go. Unfortunately, it's too short, but it's pretty creepy, as well as an overall good game. We need a Silent Hill port badly.
I still need to encounter the badger, great now I am scared even BEFORE I mean that darn thing! Cause badgers are fierce animals in real nature, too. Silent Hill for iPhone... I was so afraid playing that on PSX, at some point that was playing in broad daylight.
Aww.... That is a shame... Anyways, anyone think the 3DS would be capable of bringing horror in 3D? I think so, I can picture a Silent Hill game would be very scary in 3D... Aww who am I kidding? Bring Penumbra to 3DS!!!
I've genuinely freaked out playing Aftermath. Mind you, I was plugged into decent stereo speakers and playing in the pitch dark. But holy crap I was scared.
Seriously, Luigi's Mansion scared me the first time I played. No, I wasn't high at the time. It was night and the bosses scared me. It was quiet, and lightning flashes and you see a person sitting in a chair...
Actually, I don't know myself which is why I want for the free version lol. It's a cool little prank, but I fear someone will jump and drop my iphone.
Dude, wait until you get to The Sorrow's scene in MGS3 for the 3DS (IT'S GETTING PORTED!!! Still excited about it!)... I thought it was scary on the PS2 version... It's going to scare the crap out of everyone in 3D. They're also making a new Resident Evil for the 3DS as well. If it's not an action game like the latest ones, it should be pretty creepy. Both the 3DS and the iPhone need a Silent Hill game badly.
Just gonna throw one of my fav horror films in the pool: (REC*) I'm a big fan of zombie/infected/possessed horror movies and I personally thought this one was really well done.
is this the title? oh and how could I forget: one of my most fav. Horror Game on the itouch: Darkest Fear! A much underrated game IMHO. It was one of the first games I got. So it has a special place. Like the original Resident Evil for the PSX, which was the first Game I got on that console.
REC was a very well made film. I enjoyed it a lot. Much better than its american version, Quarantine.
