TinyKitty Well-Known Member Apr 24, 2013 71 0 0 House Elf #16 TinyKitty, Jun 1, 2013 Played a little last night. Beautiful graphics and soundtrack. The storyline was really compelling too but I didn't quite enjoy the card gameplay. You have rows of cards where you're supposed to battle through but perhaps because I am playing on the iPhone and cannot even see what the cards are, having to zoom was a real pain. Also I couldn't have all my own cards in hand visible to me all times which stalled the flow of gameplay for me. I think the idea is fantastic and I would love to see more story and a simpler battle card game with a different way to lay out the cards perhaps. The dev has done an amazing job with graphics and sound. I felt drawn into the story immediately. Attention to little things like the phone vibrating when the lead's partner phoned makes it very atmospheric. Looking forward to future updates. It's very atmospheric, the music, story, and art all really pull you into the game. In fact I can't think of another card game that does this well at achieving such immersion, especially given how zombies are really starting to get played out. As you progress you pick up allies that give you extra action points and new cards to use in your battles. You collect these by investigating map locations. There are both story locations and stock up locations. You collect things at a reasonable pace to keep the battles from getting overly-frustrating and best of all no IAP to hamper you from moving forward. Now for the combat, it is set up logically for the type of game it is. There are 3 rows where cards are played. The zombie side plays various types of zombies. These creature must make their way through the middle row which is made up of barricade cards. You can augment the barricades with booster cards. Your row is where you play ranged weapons in order to attack zombies beyond the barricade row. When zombies break a barrier they shamble up into the spot and can begin taken away from your 50 life points. You can take them out with melee weapons at this point, which you play from your hand. Besides these cards there are cards to give you extra action points so you can attack more during combat. Reload cards are also necessary as your ranged weapons only have so many rounds. You can also customize your 20 card deck to your liking. It is a very engaging experience that in all honesty gets diminished being iPhone only. It is playable but you can't directly look at your hand without obscuring the play field which has you constantly stopping the obvious flow that is supposed to be in the battles. Even when you can view the play field the cards are unreadable. This can be mitigated in the beginning with rote memorization but as you progress and get more cards and the zombies get more this becomes increasingly frustrating. As I'm writing this they have taken it off the appstore, perhaps to add universality. Also it did crash once on my 4S and the dice rolls the zombie side need to play heavier hitters seems to hit a little too often. All in all though, this game is easily worth 2 bucks when it makes it to the big screen. Even with the frustrations on my iPhone I still enjoyed it all last night. I hope the developer realizes what devices the primary purchasers of complex board/card games use. Protoman Well-Known Member Apr 2, 2013 49 1 0 #19 Protoman, Jun 1, 2013 Totally agree. I tried Cthulhu on my phone before I got an iPad. It amazes me when devs put out games that obviously are not going to work on a small iPhone screen. That was a little ridiculous; at least the game supported Airplay. Actually quite fun on a 54" TV. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
