1) Sometime in the future we will have a beta and ask for some applications 2) Battles with enemies, yes. Lots. Battles with "fleets" - kind of 3) There are definitely battles ON your ship. Invaders beam aboard, and you have to defend your crew. 4) You are omnipotent and control everyone together.
1. You can discover asteroids. Mining them really isnt an option, but asteroids will hold secrets. 2. No plans for the programming element. We like to focus on the more dramatic elements, like combat and gas leaks on a ship. 3. There will be lots of ship TYPES but the ability to actually lay your ship out wont be in Star Command 1. Maybe in the sequel or a PC version. 4. This is one we do have. There is a vacuum of space and its problems if you puncture your hull 5. You and me both. Big dwarf fortress fans 6. You can't ALWAYS say no, but you can very often just not do the mission.
Well, i wanna play it But I would give feedback.. And cmon, who here wouldnt wanna play this game early?
Could the developers adress my post next time they speak here? EDIT: I'm an idiot who can't read. It's lovely that the developer is a DF fan - and here I thought they were a rare species anywhere but on the Bay 12 forums! You should post about this there if you already haven't. I bet they'd like it. Or at least have some fun talking about it.
This looks amazing, I thought it'd be similar to X-Com at first but the Game-Dev genre is just as fun.
It fits with some of the best of Trek, too. Wrath Of Khan is a story of management; time and ship management (repairing the ship in the nebula), staff expertise (Spock leveling up logic to the point where he sacrifices himself), technology research (the Genesis device)... you could simulate pretty much the whole of the movie in a game like Star Command.
I should say potentially; it'd be exceptionally difficult to map missions in such a way that they overlap properly to form that movie. But it shows how much like Game Dev in Space very good Trek can be.
Khan is a HUGE influence. The management of a dire situation, people dying, putting out fires, using your last energy to barely survive and losing valuable crew members along the way.
