Ok, I have looked at my names and have to adjust them a little bit: Cyclotroids -> Cycloids sounds better. The former was too "bulky" New names: Luminoids -> from Lumes for Light Luminous -> same Rayben ^^ RayOnes Rayonids Klonk -> because this would be the sound you hear, when you knock on their hull "Klonk, I Klonk." -> When a Klonk tries to speak your language, in this case English, and introduces himself(?). While doing so, he smashes his fist against his head 1.) to make his races name "sound" AND 2.) to pre-emptively fix any possible occurring "brain" failures There are only male Klonks, like the Ents in Lord of the Rings. The Klonks do not know wether any female Klonks exist or not. So they are on an eternal search mission for them, like the search for the holy grail. This lead to a severe crisis between Humans and Klonks, when the Klonks found out, that the humans have NannyBots, MaidBot, NurseBots etc... The Klonks first thought that these were their long lost female Klonks, enslaved by the human race. So some Outposts were attacked and all their female Bots were abducted by the Klonk. Ok, they soon found out, that these robots weren't their long searched women, but they kept them as some kind of... ehhh "toy" It was reported, that some of the Klonks, especially those who too often smashed their fist at their heads trying to preemptively fix any possible occurring brain failures, while greeting strangers from other races, are very fond of Nanny and Nurse Bots. It was reported, too, that those Klonks were seen wearing diapers and... I have no words for that.... Brrrr Ok, that are the Klonk. Maybe later more, or not, who knows
How about the ArbitOrs. A race created by the ancients to be impartial in all things and settle disputes with utter logic and relentless conviction, quite often using no tact whatsoever and obliterating force. Unfortunately the ancients sublimed and forgot to take the Arbitors with them, leaving them to wander the galaxy and fit all life forms found into their idea of "right". nb, Arbitors spelled like that to represent the eye rather than correctly with an e.
Those sound French/Spanish to me! But it's the right direction mixing appropriate elements into new compounds: Perhaps Cyions, Zyasma? (from plasma) This is a good theme to run with; maybe the CyCorps? Or Zenith?
Are you a developer on this game? Glad you liked my Idea for Luminious 6 or so posts before yours /cough /cough
No, I am not a Dev of this game. You wrote luminious, which is word that does not exist as far as I know. I used luminous, which stands for lucent or aglow, which is a quite obvious choice. So I do not claim to be very inventive with this name. Sorry, no offense meant. I did not intend to be a copycat, I had this idea before I read the entire thread. Thanks man! Me, too!
There's a new Q&A about the game. http://gamerspot.net/qa-with-jordan-coombs-war-balloon-games-star-command-part-1/
I'd definitely recommend checking out this Q&A if you're interested in learning more about the game and how it's going to play. Anyway I'd like to thank the Star Command guys for giving us the interview. We'll have the second part up next week probably.
Thanks for the Q&A, that was a good read and scope of the game has a wide and deep sound to it, just as I've been hoping. Next week's second part can't come soon enough!
Couple of screenshot updates from devs http://www.facebook.com/StarCommandGame Midorian Spaceship (+ new UI): Russian Cosmonaut Space Zombies:
Ha! Limahl looks like he's about to pop his biscuits throughout that video Sums up the development of this game perfectly.
Aye, Topia is another "slow-burner" I've been waiting what seems like aeons on. FTL is in beta atm and is looking v, v cool, is somewhat similar on PC (more roguelike). Worth a look also.
The 2nd part of the Q&A is out. Talks about Game centre achievements, mission add-ons and more. http://gamerspot.net/qa-with-jordan-coombs-war-balloon-games-star-command-part-2/
