For me, graphics are only a small part of the equation (just when you first look at the game), because after a while, you really must have a good/unique battle system to keep the players hooked (you could start with a rock, paper, scissors system to begin with and develop more from there). For me the graphics look fine and I like how you have units that are different sizes. Maybe you can make some units even larger, that cover 2-3 hexes to make them look even more powerful. Good luck with your game.
Thanks Marcus Yeah, the battle system itself is number 1. In my mind, I am thinking of a very simple, very fast, menuless system. I wont know if it is good until I prototype it and get my army to test it. It will probably go through many iterations until I get a definitive system. For me, the control system is paramount. It can make or break a game. As for the suggestion of large units spanning multiple hexes. Interesting idea. Maybe I could have boss battles in the campaign modes. Hmmm, me is thinking...
Nice touch with the order turn buttons. Consider an option to speed up or skip enemy gameplay turn graphics. For example, Mangobile (Knighturn or Sword & Earrings; lite avaliable for research) includes a "skip" features that automatically calculates enemy progress rather than making you sit through their play animations.
Good idea. I was thinking of having a map, where it is zoomed out a bit and just displays icons instead of the characters. It was just going to be for more information, but you guys make me think it should be an optional mode for very quick gameplay. Nice, I like it. Cheers
Looks interesting and I agre, this game should have darker visuals and maybe some dark humor as well (I.e. Their eyes falling out every once in a while and picking them up)
OK I spent the day implementing an alternative simpler view. There will be a button to immediately switch between views. It may be overkill, I dont know. But I do know that I love it
The alternative view is really awesome! You have give more options to player to choose what kind of view they prefer!
Sorry for the lack of updates for a while, I have been very busy with BlibBlob, which comes out today. Anyway, here is that latest video At some point I will have to do an overhaul of the graphics and animations, but you get the idea. New stuff includes path planning, obstacles, move/attack protocol, blood particles, and general improvements all round. Here is my current list of ideas for teams: Humans Zombies Vampires Beastmen (sasquatch, werewolf, chupacabra, etc) Robots Ancient Greek monsters Evil fairies Aliens Demons Cthuluans Hybrids Greenies (goblins, trolls, orcs, etc) Mutants Youkai (japanese mythological monsters) Do you have any suggestions/ideas?
Wow, that's an awesome list. Hmm, Giants/Ogres, Wizards, Sea Monsters, Dragons, and The Tree People (like from LOTR). Also: for the vampires, can you have like a boss named "Edward"? I really wanna kill Edward
Hahaha, I'd need a really disgustingly brutal death sequence for 'Edward' Tree people is a very good idea. I will add it to the list. I am planning to have 8 unit types for each team. And I need ideas for 'special' attacks for units/teams. Let's hear more suggestions...
Zombies: Zombie Dance Vampires: Blood Fangs Beastmen: The Rabid Dog Robots: ElectroMagneticPulse (EMP) Ancient Greek monsters Evil fairies: Pixie Dust Alien: UFO Abduction Demons: Possesion Hybrids: The Mixer Greenies: My Thumb, or, Feel the Rainbow! Didn't know what to say on those, but hope a couple help!
That looks a lot like Battle for Wesnoth type of turn-based strategy game, and I LOVE THAT GAME SO MUCH and I bet this won't be an exception
Yeah, I love that game too. I played it ages ago, and bought it yesterday on iPhone. I grew up playing RebelStar, Laser Squad, Lords of Chaos, XCOM, etc. Turn based stretegy games are the best! And of course, more recently there is advance wars and fire emblem games. I love them but they menu crawling gets tiresome quickly. Thats why the gameplay in my game will be menu free.
Oh man, I bought it 2-3 days ago too! And played it like 4 or 5 years ago, switched to a new linux and forgot the name, now I remembered again and playing it 24/7
Wow, I don't know how I've missed this one so far, but this looks like a pretty awesome project. Let me just say, though it's a few posts back, that your articulated character tool looks awesome! Keep the great updates coming (although they're making me jealous with how much progress you're able to make in just a day of work).
