I swear, the first company to market with a d-pad button "case" for the iPhone to allow for button-mashing gameplay via the dock port will make some serious bank.

I thought that's been proposed but Apple won't allow it or something like that.

    ^ This.

I think if such a case existed I might actually be looking forward to some of these fighting game ports rather than watching news about them with morbid curiosity.

    Australia, mate!
Dude, I hated one big game from a big developer, and that was Assassin's Creed II. The only reason I reckon Tekken is going to suck is because it's being developed by NAMCO. And look at all the games they've produced so far on the Appstore and tell me that Tekken is not going to suck.

    Ah, big prejudice time, again?
Haven't played the game yet but you're willing to bash it.
Sorry, but the others are right - you're acting like Michaelscott.

Why can't you all wait 'til it is out before start painting everything in black?
Yeah, hail to prejudice. Its you guys who suck. Big time.

What I've seen from the vid: I'm impressed.
Suddenly SF4 starts fading into the background.

And here comes the good ol' cliché: everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

True. But useful opinions are usually informed, to some extent, by experience. So far we have yet to see even a screenshot of Tekken/iPhone. Perhaps we can hold off judgement till we have just a tiny bit more information about the game.

By the way, I agree that Namco's track record is troubling, but besides their botched iPhone versions of Ridge Racer (and others), they've also delivered on games like Garters and Ghouls and Pac-Man Championship. I think there's reason to hope that they'll pull off a game that, while not satisfying the hardcore fans (how could it), will at least be a ton of fun for "the rest of us."

Especially seeing as Namco didn't even confirm the game's existence when pocketgamer spoke to them. They also said nothing relating to Tekken will be shown at GDC. Just read the update on their original post.

anyway, if we get Tekken on Iphone games... instant buy!! :D... but too good to be true + controls gonna suck for sure

Oh man, you missed out on the best Tekken ever, IMO. Tekken 4 was simply amazing. Sometimes I miss my old PS2 just for that game.

Now like you I'm more into FPS, but Call of Duty isn't my thing. HALO is god

    I love Tekken and all...

But I don't love the meager battery life of my ipod Touch with 3D games.

How long is it likely to last in a game like Tekken, where you'll have constant multitouch input and complex 3D rendering going on at 30 - 60fps. 30 minutes?!

What's with people prefering a genre to be ignored?

Let them try! I'm rather see a company try releasing an iPhone fighting game than another puzzle!

This kind of mentality is the kind of stuff that makes the fighting game community one of thew worse of them all. "If it doesn't have a stick, six buttons, kara-cancelling and 42 characters, why even bother, oh ho ho, now let me drink some wine by my fireplace while i smoke a cigar!"
