Sounds great, so I guess no FULL HD Airplay support then? Oh well... for 99c (as rumored) it's a STEAL!
It'll happen at some point, I just don't know a) how much work it'll be and b) which devices will be fast enough to render 1080p at 30 FPS, i'm sure iPad3 and iPhone5 will but 4s and iPad2 might have to stick with 720p, I need to do timings... If it's easy enough (which I suspect it will be after a quick look at the docs) it'll be in the first or second update
That's AWESOME NEWS! I'll take even 720P as long as it's 16:9 on the iPad 3 during Airplay, because this app\builder is more of a show then a game so I want to show it to all my friends on my Apple TV without the 4:3 usual native res.. BTW you didn't mention iPhone 4, will it support it? perhaps I missed it.
iPhone4 and iPad1 are very underpowered GPUwise, they have to use simplified shaders to achieve 30FPS at all. I doubt they'd have the power to encode the video for even Airplay mirroring without dropping frames, could be wrong though... Here's an iPad1 image for reference. The differences are hopefully pretty subtle.
Sorry, I don't have an iPad3 here right now (2:15AM on my laptop), I had to trick my iPad2 into thinking it was an iPad1 to take the last shot, I can't make it think it's an iPad3... You could compare with Josh's iPad3 grabs from a few pages back.
As long as it is a real 3rd gen ( not the 8gb) it runs fine. Faster than iPad 1 most of the time, the GPU is almost as fast but only has 1/5th of the pixels. I was even able to turn MSAA on. It doesn't even really stress memory as it can get away not loading the top level of most textures, saving many megabytes of scarce video RAM.
I couldn't get by with just 8gb, it's the 32. I'll be buying this as soon as I can, then! Thanks for the fast answer.
