Not going to lie that sounds like a sick idea. Making the "skater" improve with successive play isnt a feature ive seen in any other game, and that would be an awesome thing to see
It depends on how things go, but that is definitely what I am hoping for. I've done a little bit of skateboarding my self, but I was into agro inline vert skating in a big way. I hit the vert ramp again around a month ago and found I could still do a couple flips, but as far as grinds go, I could only manage a shin grind... which is not something I recommend. Been doing some Skateboarding again recently too. I've thought about ideas like making the skater get better at a trick the more times it is attempted. However, True Skate will be all up to your skill. You will have to get the skill your self. I have tried to get the closest mapping I could to real skateboarding given the limitations of an iPhone screen. To do an ollie, you flick down on the tail, then tap the front to stop the board flipping over.
I've become quite delayed looking into server tech in the last couple weeks. I was trying to work out who to go with, but it is really sad to see the state of things. We had a good run with OpenFeint on JCS. Game Center - Low adoption rate (Strangely enough) - Easy to cheat high scores. - No replays. - No challenges. (Could maybe do a turn based game. iOS6 will have challenges, but no replays) - Limited to 25 leaderboards OpenFeint - Bought by Gree and being migrated to the Gree Platform SDK Gree - Still in Beta, and no replays yet, and no word on when that may or may not happen. Score Loop - Bought by RIM and not guaranteed to remain open. Others - Closed down, in trouble, not open, publishers owned. So.... I have actually been looking into doing server stuff my self, and using either facebook logins, or generated user names as a fallback. I have some of the basics working, but it is slow going. If I can get it working, it does have some benefits in that, I can try to do more to make cheating very difficult, and it will help with JCS2 user generated levels.
Sorry guys, progress has been slow. I was hoping to have released already, but got bogged down in some server stuff, then went on a ski holiday. It's really hard to get the momentum going again after missing some deadlines and taking a break, but I am working at it. I was working around the clock before my holiday but it's hard to get the momentum back now. Just trying to do some stuff to integrate scoring into replays which might make cheating on leader-boards a bit harder, but I'm struggling to focus right now. Something that should have taken a few days is taking weeks. Maybe I should take a brake from code and do a trailer.... will think about that. Might also start cutting a couple features to try to release earlier. I can always add them in updates. One bit of good news though! I've found a somebody new to join True Axis full time which should make a huge difference because I have been struggling to make consistent progress alone for a while. More on that once I know when he is ready to start.
How's this going? Almost done? And not to sound impatient, but how's JCS2 going? Still planning on a 2012 release?
On target for a mid October on the App Store now. Things are moving along well now. Got some tutorials in, plus a few missions. Just cleaning up some of the trick detection stuff at the moment, then want to add a few achievements. Need to find some time for a trailer. Edit: I forgot to answer this bit. Still going to try to get something out 2012, although, True Skate running so late is going to cause a problem for that. I am considering releasing the content in stages to get it out early. There is a lot more stuff in JCS2 then the original.
Only just now saw the little gameplay video from facebook and it looks awesome, really looking forward to it. Finally a good skating game (such a waste thps2 never gets updated..)
Yes. Very close to submitting now. Might have already done it if I wasn't in bed with flue for a while. Will try to post some screens/videos soon.
