The game is mostly about free roam, but the area is pretty small. There are some missions and tutorials too, but it is mostly just about getting the core physics and graphics really nice first, then adding more content with updates.

Can we play it in landscape mode? or only Portrait mode , so that it gives a better perspective of what the surroundings are and plan how to pull of the next Grinds.

Being able to look ahead is more important. In landscape, you have too pull the camera back too far to be able to look ahead, which makes the skateboard too small on the screen. You never really feel like you are missing out on looking to the side when you are playing. There are also some different camera choices you can cycle through, including a fish eye lens.

I think in the ipad this game will look awesome and feel will be great, it makes the controlling feel almost equal to that of kinect game. Big screen, the feel would be awesome.

This game really needs a proper trailer. These gameplay videos dont do the game much good.

This will be an instabuy for me as well. Looks like it will be a lot of fun. I just hope I have the ability to play my own bg music with in game sfx if I want. I liked touchgrind bmx a lot, but touchgrind I could never get into due not not being able to see where I was going and ackward controls. This game looks like it has addressed those issues. The skatepark looks nice too. Maybe new maps like other skateparks, cityscapes, etc would help with replayablity.

After getting a build off Luke today, this evening at 11pm I decided to give it a bit of a play test. It's now 12.39pm!

It's actually fun just skating around playing with the board and seeing what tricks can be done (this is without doing the missions) - sort of like a simulation of learning to skateboardÂ… but without the pain of falling off ;) On that level the game works pretty well... the fun part is experimenting with the swipes on different parts of the board and seeing what transpires.

It works pretty well with two fingers - almost like your fingers react like your legs would on a real board.

Is it possible to lock into all of the grinds on this? Like a proper crooked? Or blunt? I play the living crap out of Touchgrind and I'm pretty much the Master Daddy at this point. But on Touchgrind you can slide up to tweak your board and land in proper crooks and blunts/noseblunts and it'll actually lock in. I didn't see much of anything other than boardslides and 50-50's on this. All in all though, this looks like it's going to rule hard.

I already answered this same question on the TA Plays article comments, and here it is again cut and pasted for anybody else. Also, for people interested in lip tricks, that may be something we want to add more detection and support for in the future.

The following grinds are possible, but things like a bluntslide are very hard to pull off. You can control the angle between a crooked and a lazy grind, or what ever.
    50 50 GRIND
    5 0 GRIND
    BOARDSLIDE
    RAIL SLIDE
    TAIL SLIDE
    NOSE SLIDE
    DARKSLIDE
    DARK_50_50
    SUSKI GRIND
    SMITH GRIND
    FEEBLE GRIND
    SALAD GRIND
    NOSE GRIND
    CROOKED GRIND
    LAZY GRIND
    OVERCROOK
    LOSI GRIND
    BLUNTSLIDE
    NOSEBLUNT

Does this constitute confirmation of iPad retina? That would be the icing on an already delicious looking cake.

I'm also wondering how the view is handled on the iPad (apologies if it's been covered already). Is the whole thing scaled up or does the board look smaller on the screen with a larger view of the skate park?

The game runs at a solid 60fps on iPad retina.

The camera angle is slightly different on the iPad, but mostly the skateboard gets bigger, which actually makes the game a bit easier to play. True Skate is super fun on iPad.
