My favourite turn-based stategy/tactics games on this platform are: Reign of Swords 1 - has the deepest tactical element as well as many very varied scenarios. Presentation is a little spartan, though. Uniwar - less tactically deep than above and single-player campaign is only a tutorial. Has great multiplayer, however. Battle for Wesnoth - more content than in any of the competitors, good tactical challenge, role-playing elements, somewhat involved stories, beautiful art panels, great music. Also inter-platform multiplayer, which I didn't yet try. Performance needs to be improved, but an update is already in the works. All an all, potentially the greatest of them all, but not quite there yet. Mecho Wars - I have only played it before the 3.0 update, but at that point while it had a really nice visual presentation and music, it was also the shallowest gameplay-wise. A runner-up. Rogue Planet I only tried the Lite, and while it is very, very pretty, IMHO neither the gameplay nor the controls work particularly well. Oh, and I don't know if Civilization Revolution belongs in here, but it is a pretty well done implementation.
you might like settlers butage of empires and settlers are both realtime strategy games the games this thread is mainly about turn based strategy. if you havent tried a turnbased strategy game before then you can try the lite versions of the games people have mentioned in previous posts
is it me am i the weird one ? im so confused again. ill feel like blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat thats not even there. i hope im not cracking up...uh oh i better put a smiley at the end of this so none has me commited dont mind me im fine heh
Thank you scottyd2k9 for creating this thread I did snitch my copy of UniWar for free I'd like MORE details about a few TBSs mentioned : Battle for Wesnoth & Mecho Wars are my consideration now... Number of Campaigns & Levels Total number of gameplay hours on Single player campaign (I do not play online.... so) I love the Gfx for MW btw...
RTK Touch - Most complex and challenging turn-based strategy game, part historical simulation, a port from the legendary series of the same name for PC/PS2/Wii by Koei; multilingual (Japanese, Chinese, English); my personal favourite Battle for Wesnoth - Second most complex and challenging, fantasy elements, very long campaign, however the game takes up a huge amount of memory at once and often crashes; my second personal favourite Mecho Wars - Very easy but very smooth gameplay, no animation lag (unlike in Uniwar ) at all, medium-length campaign, get this if you are very casual about TBS games Rogue Planet - Very easy, very good graphics, however extremely slow paced and campaigns get repetitive after a while; supposedly they fixed the campaigns to make them more fast-paced and reduced bottleneck situations, but I'm not sure as I haven't played after the update yet; only recommended if you care about graphics the most
I would respectfully disagree with Aurora on one point. RKT is a legendary series, but RTK Touch is a dud. Plus, it will cost you ten dollars to experience that turd. Her other suggestions seem sound.
It's not based on RTK 10 or 11, it's probably a port of something like RTK 1-3, that's why it might seem very bad. Of course if it's compared to RTK 10 or 11 it will seem like a joke. 10 and 11 would be impossible to port to iDevice due to their complexity. It still has the most complexity and challenge like I said. Oh and his, not her.
You have been misunderstanding me. You are absolutely correct, that functionally, it's a hybrid of 1-3 with some graphics from 6, I believe. It is missing some very important functions though. In my opinion, it cripples the game. I actually still play 2, 3, and 10. I used mainly 2 and 3 for my comparison. I love Koei games, that's why I was so disappointed by RTK Touch. Oh, I have duly note your correct gender. Sorry, it's your screen name.
Rebirth of Fortune is a very nice little gem. It has 8 different characters with quite clever AI. It just got updated today with different kind of terrains too. Rebirth of Fortune Dotomchi Games Inc. Upgrade and customize your own units to compete in a chess-like strategy game of position and power. Goal of the Game: Your eight individual units share a mutual relationship and utilize various strategies and skills according to their disposition. A devisive strategy is required to beat each of 200 stages and various enemy AIs. If you eradicate the enemy you will be rewarded, and using the rewards fund you can upgrade your units and prepare for greater combat. The Game Rules 1. Before combat you should customize your force and position your units within the spaces allowed. Create and position your units according to the strategy you devise. 2. When it is your turn you select your unit to move and designate the act (attack/special). One turn is limited to 30 seconds, and if your action is not completed in 30 seconds your turn will be passed to the enemy. 3. Unit color turns dark and the unit becomes disabled after it acts. It can act again when the unit color returns to normal a few turns. This attribute is related to the agility of the unit. Units of high agility have relatively short periods of time to be reactivated. 4. You can move the unit to attack the enemy within the unit's individual range of attack. You need a proper strategy according to the terrain and the attributes of your units because each unit has its own field of movement, range and method of attack, and damage value. 5. Once you select to attack an enemy unit, a white circle appears on your screen, which continuously changes its size larger and smaller. This is related to the attack power and accuracy rate. Inflict maximum damage on the enemy unit by touching the circle at its smallest. Also, the most favorable attack positions are when you are standing beside or behind the enemy unit. 6. After your unit performs its action you choose in which direction your unit will wait. The unit receives different damage values according to the direction it faces when attacked. 7. The jeweled icons and gauge bars at the top of the screen indicate special techniques available. Some units use just one orb per special, while others use more (up to five, for extremely powerful spells/buffs). When the gauge fills up, a new orb appears. The gauge bar fills up slowly over time, but fills faster when your unit is attacked or killed. 8. Each unit has a unique special ability according to its class and orbs available. Special techniques are very powerful and can turn the tides of war. You should be ready to collect orbs and use the proper special technique according to your situation in battle. 9. When you progress in battle and anihilate the entire enemy team, you win. Because the healer unit has no means of attack, a team is considered destroyed even if it has a healer still alive. With the compensation obtained from victory, you should upgrade your units and get ready for the next battle. 10. In the beginning you won't be able to use all eight units. You should upgrade your available units with the war funds obtained from battle, and you'll be able to use the locked units upon meeting the unlocking requirements. This configuration is a sort of growth tree. Information Seller:Dotomchi Games Inc. GodSon Well-Known Member Mar 12, 2009 3,373 0 36 #36 GodSon, Feb 5, 2010 My top two TBS games: 1) Battle for Wesnoth: Hands down the best one all around for the price. As stated its MASSIVE with content, campaigns, diversity, leveling of characters, evolution of characters, over 200 fully animated characters in even the smallest detail, cross platform multiplayer, skirmish modes, tons of maps that are very well polished, MASSIVE "free" updates, openFeint integration, and so much more. This game I feel is a must have if your a TBS fan. 2) Song Summoner: I had this for iPod Classic. This one I like because it is very unique in the sense that you can utilize your personal music library to create characters from scratch to send into battle. iirc there are over 50 different characters possible. One other great and unique thing is that you can level your characters while your not playing the game ! Yes all you have to do is play the songs that you created the contingent character from and your game is now working for you. I play my music just about everywhere on shuffle so whether its hours, days, weeks, etc... you log back in game and your music calculates and levels before you get back into your game. This game is similar to FF: Tactics advanced but the graphics aren't as polished. Solid game other than that! ultimo Well-Known Member May 5, 2009 3,840 1 38 #37 ultimo, Feb 5, 2010 Nice to hear from U too Godson, am Unable to try Battle for Wesnoth, the Lite as I said is not available this moment.... cud someone please check? I still found it to be really enjoyable, and so good to see my favourite PC game on iPhone. And it's quite all right, most people think I'm a girl.
