I will purchase both. I owned Final Fantasy I from the day it came out on my ancient NES. I wasn't very old at the time, maybe 12ish, but I played that game till it was no more. Since that time I have randomly picked it up and finished it and I really am excited about the prospect of playing it a little at a time.

As for the comments about it being a child's game, it's in fact one of the more difficult games in the series, that is unless you follow a strategy guide. Even then it's no walk in the park.

Additionally, Square Enix, at the time Squaresoft, really helped to revolutionize a genre that could have easily found itself dead. I believe any modern RPG owes at least a little respect to the original masterpiece that is FFI.

I couldn't agree more the Final Fantasy games are great. I personally am getting both I and II hope the pod remakes do them justice. On a lesser note I hope they release Final Fantasy Tactics/Final Fantasy Tactics Adv. for the Iphone/Ipod.

True. This game started it all. There was nothing like it at the time.

I'm probably not gonna bother with either of them. Unless they bring out some of the better FF's(4-8), it's not really worth the time or money.

Are you aware that this is a remake of the original Final Fantasy II for NES, not Final Fantasy IV (known as Final Fantasy II in America) for SNES? They are different games.

American Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV) for SNES:

Alright, who voted for XIII? It may well be a decent game, but Final Fantasy it ain't, not anymore. Barely any role-playing in it either.

Im sorry, but if your expecting the original NES game, your out of luck. This is the dawn of souls version, they turned it into a boring cakewalk..

Never played any Final Fantasy or any real JRPG, so I'll guess that I'll start at the beginning...

I am not familiar with this. Could you expand on what you mean?

Me neither. I thought it was the original game with graphic upgrades.

See post #19 on this thread, or read the review of the PSP version (which is the one we're getting) on IGN.

Personally I don't really care that much. It will still be a much richer game than any other console-style RPG on the platform.

Trust me, you don't want FF1. The story is crummy and the gameplay is really bland. FF2 and FF3(4 and 6?) are MUCH better, with FF6(the one with Kefka) being my favourite RPG of all time! Good memories! :)

I'm lucky I read that twice, the first time I read it, I thought you said it would be a much richer game than any other console RPG. Phew.

You can try, but if you laugh at everyone who gets enjoyment out of the stuff they spend money on... you'll never stop laughing ;)
