I'm not surprised by these results at all. I'll by the energy from time to time, but the pay to play kind of system is getting less and less appealing to me. With this pricing system I'll never get very deep into this game. Most people will probably be turned off by the limitations of one gun and a standard suit in the beginning. I'd rather just give them 9.99 and be done with the energy for good.

I'll do the surveys and stuff but I'm not gonna pay a dollar I could be using for another game

OMG! people seriously stop complaining and ENJOY the fact that it will be free, you don't want to spend any money you do not need to, since your energy will recharge, people like me who can't buy every single awesome game should enjoy this.

Jesus, why is everyone getting so angry now that it's going to be free?

    I don't understand.

Ever since ngmoco announced that the game will be free, a bunch of TA'rs have been saying things like:

"OMFG! Now this game's gonna suck"

    and

"OMGZ! I dun wunna hav to p4y 4 energy pax to playz!"

    (which, incidentally, you don't)

I just don't freaking understand it.

    Exactly.
We aren't even complaining about the price.
As consumers, we are the ones benefiting (at least in the short term) from the app being free. We are simply expressing our views on the decision and how people will respond, and how successful/beneficial it will be for ngmoco. No more, no less.
I just hate it when people don't put any effort into reading a post, then argue just for the sake of it, trying desperately to win something in their life.

Looks like people agree with me. People saying that ngmoco are getting rip off, they are the ones who put the price as free, so it's there fault if it doesn't pay off.

I don't know - one does not know what will happen with the audience. How many people predicted a huge FAIL for Xbox 360 live - then Halo came out - and even though silver membership is free - most everyone still pays for gold...

I highly doubt that, you know why?

Xbox Live came out before the Xbox 360.

No. I don't think I'll buy any. I personally think I could be using that one buck on another game.

    Maybe one or two eventually.

What bothers me is that I thought we were actually seeing a new era of the app store. I was hoping we would see $10 become regular for BIG games and that it would attract more real gamers and companies. A big game like this going free will force other fps online prices down to keep up.

The only comfort I take is that the people who pay for battery packs are put on a 'priority seating' type list. (people who buy energy packs will be put in matches before those who don't when the servers are crowded)

    Brazilian Rider,

You are bordering on being a troll. If you were a brand new user here, I would seriously consider banning you.

The reason you are bordering on troll is that you refuse to acknowledge even the slightest possibility that you are wrong and refuse to acknowledge any credible arguments against your position. You are irrationally spewing off your doomsday positions, and change your position regularly simply to adopt the most negative scenario.

First, you claimed that they wouldn't get many downloads because of negative reviews, now you claim that they will get so many downloads they won't be able to cope.

You can't seem to comprehend the fact that if they can make X amount of money with Y users, they will make 10X money with 10Y users. It's like suggesting that Apple would go out of business if they sold 10x the amount of iPhones.

You act like this is unchartered territory.

Printers are free or close to free, and the manufacturers make $$ on ink.
Razors are free or close to free, and they make $$ on razor blades.
Several game companies do this exact thing. There are a ton of facebook games out there that are FREE to play. They monetize it in other ways.

You should also read this article carefully:
