Phoenix HD - A Modern Arcade Shmup (by Firi Games)
Phoenix hd is on the nz appstore now!
Wow wow wow! I didn't thought it would be that great but there IS no turning back from that hd experience. The 60 fps framerate is amazing and the new effects and backgrounds are jaw dropping... I hope that firi finally get the attention they deserve by going free because this is the best shmup available on the appstore.
Small things i would have liked: a full screen version because, as of now, there are black borders on the edge of the screen on my ipad. But i assume this as something to do with the retina resolution on the 4th gen being smaller. Oh and the sound of the bosse's explosion is not loud enough but that's just a small rant

Anyway you know what to do now and i can't wait to see the next game from you guys

Oh no, so its another pretend universal app that just allows the retina rez to display? I hope you are wrong. Actually looking at all the photo's the black bars are just on the sides, the usuall retina/universal con has black bars top and bottom too.

It's using the native iPad res, but respecting the default iPhone aspect ratio so that devs don't have to rework the enemy spawn algorithms for the added space in iPad mode. A slight disappointment, but a minor price to be paid given at how much the dev is asking for the game and the fact that it's universal. The other option is Phoenix HD for iPad that will add only a slight play area to the game but will be a different SKU and possibly more expensive, like Silverfish MAX.

I'll go ahead and ask: will Phoenix HD include any audio options, such as muting the music but keeping sound effects? I hope.
