I'm not familiar with the 400 Days DLC or problems downloading but posters in the main thread indicate favorable reactions. If enought people nominate The Walking Dead: 400 Days DLC then it will be included in the polling. My opinion is it's up to the community to decide on what is eligible or not through the nomination period. I don't know if there's a precident for counting downloadable content as a new release or not. I can think of some other examples where a game is totally overhauled or such significant episodic/additional material is added it feels like a new game in itself. PC games seem to see DLC/expansions as a separate release rather than just part of the same game but my impression is that doesn't seem to be the case on the Touch Arcade community for some reason. I'll be curious to see how nominations go.
It's a tough call on the 400 Days DLC. I remember a lot of people had wished we could nominate Repulze when it got some massive updates, including one that drastically change the nature of the game with racing elements. But I don't care either way. Just if we allow for it, then it may get hairy in the future for other games.
I agree that allowing nomination of DLC or games with huge updates is iffy; I'm not sure I'm in support of it. However, if a lot of people really feel The Walking Dead: 400 Days deserves it then this poll is subject to the forums' opinion after all.
I'd consider independent DLC to be eligible, but not the separate chapters of a single episodic game. For example, 400 Days is an intermediate title designed to bridge the first and second seasons of TWD and could technically have been a standalone game, thus would be eligible, but TWD: Episode 3 wouldn't be eligible because it is still just a part of TWD: Season One. Concerning episodic titles, it would seem off for what is technically just a single game to be able to potentially win GotW on five separate weeks. Come to think of it, if anything we should disallow all but the final episode of an episodic game to be eligible for GotW, so that the game as a whole is taken into account at the time of voting.
400 Days is essentially a different app, but they used the already popularly downloaded TWD to give it a massive boost in visibility. PLUS, TWD is already in most people's devices/itunes, so they dont really need to market 400 Days that much anymore. I think they decided free distribution and free marketing is too good to pass up and chose to make 400 Days as a DLC instead. Having said that though, i believe we shouldnt include it in the poll, as my thoughts above also mean that 400 Days is in all reality, not a new app, but a mere expansion DLC. It's not like we have nominated Phoenix Wright Trilogy 3 times, because it is 3 games in one.
It does sound to me like it's almost a separate app. My concern was just purely for the sake of whether this could set a bad president and make it a constant struggle to decide whether a game should or shouldn't be eligible. I think, from that standpoint, it may just be better to leave it out for the sake of clarity. Nothing against the game at all.
