Just read over the user reviews of the Android version, and one or two were complaining about it being hard or the job system being complicated, but the vast majority of reviews were positively glowing.

I wonder if Kemco's infamous anti-piracy has been enabled by default on iOS?

Hmm... I have read a couple of the comments about balance issues, and - like the other posts - I am also concerned. I purchased this at .99, so no big loss. But still, it is sad to see an IAP set up like this from a publisher I usually trust.

    Alrighty...

So.... I got my characters up to level 20 (4th char at 19) now... and jumping in and out of 'dungeon' areas is doing it for me. I'll go into an area, get as many kills on the quest enemies as I can, try and make it to the soldiers to give them their items, and then exit...

This, of course, takes a lot of saving, because you never really know if you're going to be able to flee in a battle that could potentially set you back.

But once I exit the 'dungeon' area, I go back to the towns, turn in my quests, get the experience and gold, and then stay at the inn. I still think that potions are useless, as you can just go through them WAAAAY too quickly if you stay in an area for too long, and refilling MP and HP at an inn is only 30 gold instead of forking over 5k+ just to try and make it through an area with potions.

This is how I've gotten my characters up to level 20. I got them through the first areas, making my way to the guilds in each area by fleeing EVERY battle. It seemed like the only way to do it at the time.

Problem is... even with some VERY expensive armor and weapons, I'm still finding the FIRST areas (not the second areas that open up after you are able to have a 4th member) pretty much impossible to get all the way through. There's just certain groups of monsters you have to flee from right away (enemies that poison you, or don't take any damage) - I'm trying out pretty much every job title I've got unlocked so far, but then my damage and defense just goes way down because I just don't have the weapons and armor for that particular job, and usually find myself using bare hands with little to no armor, so it's taking me a while.

It really does feel like an anti-piracy set-up that just was not turned off. Either that or it's incredibly unbalanced, or there's still just something I'm missing... a job I haven't tried or mastered yet because of the lack of equipment, but still, in getting that equipment, I'll need to do like I have been... grinding and fleeing, saving and escaping areas over and over again.

Pretty upsetting that this one Kemco game is the only one that's not clicking for me. I REALLY wanna get into it, because I feel like if I do, it'll be worth it (their other titles are some of my favorite RPGs on ANY platform) - but the frustration is killing me. =o/

    **edit**

I just wrote the devs, but since they're over east, I most likely won't get a response until tonight. Whenever I do, I'll post their response here. I sent them pretty much this exact post... then asked them for help on whatever it is that we're not seeing. =o/

^^ I haven't gotten nearly as far as you. I didn't really mess too much with trying different jobs. I'm sorry but this early in the game, you shouldn't have to!

Hope you're right about there being some ant-piracy thing that wasn't turned off or something because there's no reason that it should be this difficult and frustrating. If you have to put in that much grinding and having to flee battles constantly and still can't get past certain enemies in the first part of the game, clearly it's either broken or competely unbalanced.

Kemco's games have always been good in terms of the difficulty ramping up nicely and never unfair. This is a different story and one that I'm not willing to put the time and effort into if it's something that's not fixed.

I'll be interested to hear what Kemco says in response to your e-mail.

Damn, im saddened to see the balancing comments, I havent played this yet but bought it instantly when I saw it because I trusted Kemco's way of making classicaly inspired jrpgs.

Now what gives me the creeps is the thought that theyre doing so bad on ios that putting iaps on their back catalog becames a possibility, because that would be a real shame.

Im giving the benefit of doubt to them though, lets see what they have to say about this!

Alrighty... hit a 2nd gate, and battled a dragon... better yet... wasted all of my MP before it regained all of it's health (and then did the same another couple times) - and handed my ass to me. I've completed all of the quests minus the coin quests up until now, and am at level 24 with all of my characters, with each of them having some pretty decent armor and weapons, and 3rd tear job levels...

it's really looking like it's an anti-piracy thing...

but yeah, I'm still pretty interested in what Kemco has to say about it as well.

I HOPE that this is the case. =o/

Syntheticvoid, was it the boss who constantly heals itself? Cast silence on it and it'll be a cakewalk :) Boss battles in this game seems to require different combinations, one required a 100% resist to thunder and flame before it could be taken down.

The difficult part of the game seems to be at the beginning, i'm now at level 60ish and battles are becoming much easier. Try grinding near to the glowing circle which replenishes hp/mp instead of going to the inn (saves the travel and money)

care to toss me a hint as to which job allows you to cast silence?

    And thanks for the tips...

If this is how the game is designed, then it fails at being an RPG where you can compose a party with a different strategy with you best classes/skills/members/etc.

Who, in his right gaming mind, wouldve thought you'd need 100% resist to 2 elements to just to take down a boss?

And if i have job classes resembling warriors and rogue-types, how the hell do you get past that boss mentioned above without silence?

escape the area, and choose the job class that does allow for silence, then go back to early areas and grind until you're able to use silence...

    ??

    fun fun.

^^ Yeah, I'm sorry but if the game was intentionally designed that way (which I suspect it wasn't and still hope it's a problem with the build released on the iOS), that's an incredibly poor design for an RPG.

As I mentioned, I gave up on this early because I suspected something must be wrong. Clearly, SV has put a lot more time into it and is still having issues.

If a VERY early battle with level 2 characters has you running into creatures that poison/freeze you and you can't do any damage AT ALL to them, that's a sign of a game that isn't worth putting the effort into (at least for me). Fights where fleeing is the only option are not fun. And not a single Kemco RPG has come even close to being that unbalanced or insanely difficult.

And, frankly, if Kemco comes back and says that is part of the design, then I will feel cheated and will not sacrifice my life just to get through the early parts of the game even if it does get "easier" later. I sincerly doubt that's the case though and hope it's addressed.

Well, nice, so if you played the game with any other job, it'd be an epic fail. you shouldn't have to keep changing jobs to defeat various enemies. As E-P mentioned, part of the fun of RPGs is playing through the game with various skill sets, etc. Running into a wall because you didn't chose a certain job is plain stupid.

I'm curious what Kemco's answer is to SV's message. If this all isn't a mistake, I'll be a bit disappointed in Kemco...

And to the previous tips added, I entered another area (thought it was the area I was looking for, but apparently not), and came across another boss (Dark Mask) that is just insanely difficult. I'm guessing I'll have to try and figure out what jobs all of my characters need to have (because they definitely are NOT the same as the jobs needed to get through the area's monsters), and then grind more so I can level up those jobs after I figure out which ones are required to beat that boss...

Yeah, I'm loosing interest. I still need to make it through the area of that other boss I was initially having issues with before trying to silence it... Good news there, I already leveled up my magic character enough to use silence, so whenever I do, it shouldn't take TOO long. =o/

I'll be sure and share what they say in the next e-mail.

"I remember it was tough at the beginning if you don't beat the dungeons in their difficulty orders"

What the heck is that supposed to mean? Just trying to travel to one of the four towns in the first part of the game .... you can easily run into a random encounter that will wipe you out.

I just find it odd that there's just no comparison in the difficulty compared to other Kemco games. So if it's not some sort of anti-piracy issue or bug and this is the real deal, then I'd put this in a box and lock it away. Then have to question whether to buy Kemco games day one ever again. Of course, this was only a buck, but it's still disappointing.

I was stumped for ages too. When u have 2 skill orbs, try wind + ice or fire + lightning, one of the Civilian houses in town gave a clue to that boss

Thanks... I'm bound n determined to understand this one. I've sunk 6 hours into it now, and I just can't let myself give up on it...

If whatever it is finally clicks, I'll be sure and let you guys know...

But even right now, job experimentation, leveling up, and grinding all sound essential ATM...
