I agree Avadon was fantastic. Avernum by the same developer is supposed to be coming out soon. The Bards Tale is good as well but more dungeon hunter style.
Avadon, is the closest thing for now. Unless your into emulation, there is a Gameboy Advance version of Baldur's Gate. But, it would be an insult to what you remember if you compare it to the pc version.
I've said it before, but "The Bard's Tale" is a title worth looking at, great game, similar top down view, with a good sense of humor. Don't think of the old C64/Amiga game (although that's now also bundled as a free download with the game), this is a ported PC game, I believe made well after BG.
I have The Bards Tale. It's okay, but not the d&d stle I was looking for. The humor is okay. I played the original Bards Tale when it first came out and probably still have stacks of graffing paper we would map the dungeons with. Basically, I want to play AD&D but I'm long past that point in my life. Just want a good story and turn based play that I can put down and come back to later. Downloading avadon. Hope it's worth $10!
The bards tale has been updated to include the original titles alongside the ps2 action rpg, all in one package. No IAP needed.
I have assignments to finish and Chinese women to date. Once I have some free time, I'll certainly play Avadon and Avernum, since I'm an old RPG / Diku MUD geek. For any affidavit, I never liked D&D and AD&D rule-sets. That said, I stopped following AD&D rule-sets back in late 80s. Baldur's Gate is an instant no-brainer of a purchase. Enhanced edition, especially so. Sits alongside Morrowind and GTA series (with a nod to Fahrenheit) as my favourite game. Never got anywhere near completing it because it is so BIG, with so many diversions. This time, a Neutral Evil party ... "Go for the eyes, Boo! Go for the eyes!" Cheers!
Heh, a mixed party of good and evil characters is actually pretty fun, as long as you are ready to keep your reputation under 20. They have much more hilarious stuff to say to each other... I finished my first and so far only BG1 play-through with Yeslick, Kagain (these 2 are great together), Safana, Coran and Edwin. Great times...
Despite its flaws, I really liked the combat / mechanics of "Temple Of Elemental Evil" more than BG. I'd kill for a port of that one, or "Planescape: Torment".
Im really looking forward to playing BG again, I reinstalled it a few years ago and played one real playthrough and one solo playthrough. However, I don't remember if there was a difficulty slider in this game? Or a difficulty selection at start? Easily one of the greatest games of all times, I bet I still have a lot to experience in this game since I tend to play the same kind of character even in multiple play throughs .
Sure. But there hasn't been any news for a while beyond the Summer release window. I'm sure that action will pick up once they make further announcements.
Without updates it is hard to keep up the hype I am waiting for this as much as for some other really nice RPGs. Just don't know if I find the time to play it, didn't even finish Bard's Tale yet...80hrs, yeah, that was a nice incentive when I was young
There have been updates, they're just kinda boring. Announcing hired staff for music, art direction, and writing. Goes to show that they're serious about creating new content for the game, but, yeah, hard to get excited about content that we can't see yet. It doesn't help that their web site is terrible, either.
Their website makes me feel like I'm back in the 90s playing Baldur's Gate with 6 CDs haha. Both good and bad there. I really want a release date on this.
Think this was set for June 20th, from reading on their site.. looking out to Wednesday.. going to be an expensive night
According to devs twitter, even the interface is not yet complete and there is a lot to do. IMHO we won't be seeing anything before september (end of Summer) at the earliest (probably fall 2012).
