To put an item into inventory, touch the item to select, then using another finger select the hero you wish to put into inventory. Dungeon Masters is a real time 3D classic dungeon crawler. You must resurrect up to four deceased heroes from the Hall of Champions, and lead them through the dungeon to find the Firestaff, a weapon capable of defeating the Dark Lord. Dungeon Masters is viewed through your eyes, and most of the actions are in real time and based on touch based interactions. If an item is on the floor, you can just touch on it, pick it up. To place an item into a character's inventory use one finger to hold the item and another to select the character character, then drop it in one of the character's inventory. Each champion has different sets of skills and abilities described as 'classes' (Warrior, Ninja, Magician and Priest) Dungeon Masters doesn't feature traditional experience points, and training is at the core of the gameplay. Fighting and magic both require practice, and the more an ability is used, the more it improves. Dungeon Masters spells are cast by using runes, and these powerful magic symbols need to be combined into words to trigger the desired incantation, such as fireballs, magic potions or armful gas clouds. Finally, fighting is completely integrated in real time. In Dungeon Masters monsters wander around the dungeon as the player moves about, and only attack the team when in range (or in sight). Remember in Dungeon Masters enemies can attack from any direction, and the party can run away, as long as the player has planned an escape route. Fun. Graphics seem dated (duh) but the game play seems to be there. No real instructions that I saw. Hard to tell equips and who can equip what and so on, but a good start. I don't think they be able to get this to iPhone, due to the amount of Precision tapping needed to explore and exchange items between party members. I played a lot of dungeon hack on the old pc, and this is pretty similar. Will post more after I get a chance to explore some more. Gabrien Well-Known Member Nov 24, 2009 5,148 0 36 #6 Gabrien, Jan 7, 2013 Impressions It's Dungeon Master. It works. Ok, it doesn't work as well as it could. The interface for inventory management is pretty messed up. Equipping items and in particular transferring them from one character to another is a massive chore. So much so, I suspect something is actually broken and needs a fix. But it is manageable. And it is Dungeon Master. The graphics have been spruced up a little from the original, but everything else appears to remain exactly the same. The dungeon layout, object placement, monsters, are as and where I recall them to be. (And the fact that I recall anything, almost what, 25 years since I last played it? Says a heck of a lot about the game.) Another possible issue is to do with spell casting, and here I really can't recall: in the original game, were rune names displayed as you cast them? I think they were but am not certain. They aren't displayed here, so when you find a scroll that tells you to "invoke Ful for a magic torch," you might be scratching your head as to which rune that refers to. That is, assuming you figure out how to "read" the scroll, because any documentation for the game appears to be non-existant. But it is Dungeon Master. And it is, objectively, one of the best and most influential video games ever made. And it is very difficult for a poor interface and an unnecessarily steep learning curve (initially) to eclipse that. The creepy footsteps and the various dungeon noises that echo close and far away throughout your descent, the exemplary level design that guides you to familiarise yourself with your surroundings instead of relying on an automap, the bond that you begin to feel with your characters as they progress in their abilities and in their journey, the puzzles, the loot, the challenge, the narrow victories, defeats, and escapes, all of that appears to be here and intact. It's a compelling, absorbing, rare experience, that may have lost the initial "wow" factor of being the first of its kind when first released, but overwhelmingly has retained the qualities which always stand the test of time, if ever present. metalcasket Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Patreon Gold Patreon Bronze May 24, 2010 11,064 1,340 113 Deepest Circle, Hel #7 metalcasket, Jan 7, 2013 But it's not Dungeon Master...is it? As do the possible legalities of the whole release as well as not knowing exactly who is behind it. On the other hand, the original game has been available to download for free for some time from various sources and on various platforms as far as I'm aware. And some effort has apparently been made to update the graphics for this release - again though, would really like to know who is behind it and what their possible plans are. But bottom line: it's Dungeon Master, the "s" notwithstanding. Having this 'copy/clone' as you say is a rip off of a classic, but theres also a lot of games out there which are based on other older games. But yeah its a tricky one, as theres no official version i dont mind the clones so much. bramblett05 Well-Known Member Aug 29, 2012 5,682 0 0 #13 bramblett05, Jan 7, 2013 Maybe its good who knows. Trying to find ful for the torch, but haven't had any luck. Guessing randomly uses your mp, and fails or you don't have enough skill to cast every time for me so far. EDIT: torch spell is the first rune then the fourth. Then you click the bar with the runes in it to cast. Plays good. It's a little archaic being that its so old, but plays as it should Edit: went over to gameFAQS and found a walkthru if anyone is interested. The characters in the hall seem to be the same as this so hopefully should work good. This is one of the most beloved games of all time for old gamers. This game at the time, believe it was the last 80's, was ground breaking as Doom, Half-life, Halo, etc to its era. This game had tremendous atmosphere and I believe was the first game to employ first-person prespective among many other new at the time interactive techniques. Dungeon Master is held in the highest reverance by us old school gamers. I have vivid memories of playing this with my then 5 year old daughter on my lap every evening for about 2 months . It was an unbelievable gaming experience at the time. I will purchase this and hope it still holds some of its magic. My most memorable moment involves dropping the iron gates on mummys to kill them. Thought that was so cool at the time when I discovered it lol. Dungeon Master is definitely in the pantheon of all-time great games. Gabrien Well-Known Member Nov 24, 2009 5,148 0 36 #18 Gabrien, Jan 7, 2013 Important note on runes and casting: the first rune you select determines the spell's power; it is not the spell rune itself. So for example, to cast magic torch, you would first select the spell's power/level, (pick from lowest to highest rune from left to right) then select the rune "Ful." Spoiler fourth rune from the left Lower level characters won't be able to successfully cast higher level spells. I suspect practicing higher level spells will train skill faster, though since they use more mana it probably evens out, and I'm not sure whether you gain skill from failed attempts.
