Wow, I'm missing a few! Downloading Zaga now! How did I miss it???? Seen a few others that I'm missing as well, thanks so much for the thread!
Polyroll looks cool..never seen it before. A few more that may qualify: Shantais risky revenge Quiet, please Eboy fixpix Time geeks series Bob jump Mcpixel And that game where your a girl and it's a platformer with water melons.. Graphics are kinda like yoshis island.. The name has slipped my mind
Great list! A few others for consideration: Spike Dislike Retro Racing Robot Wants Kitty Spectre Personaly would have loved to put Vector Tanks in there but damn Atari laywers... You put Space Invaders Infinity Gene in there so I'd also say Pac-Man CE. But, if you go down that route, you could bring on all the Sonic games and probably hundreds of other ports. So not sure where you want to draw the line.
Here's some more: 774 Deaths Omegapixel Tower of Fortune the big 4 roguelikes (CQ, 100R, Legend of Yore, Fargoal) Saturday Morning RPG Kid Vector Spellsword Necrorun Monkey Ninja
You are absolutely right in that I had to pare it down to what I felt was essential. Additionally, it only reflects games that I am familiar with and that we're more recently made in the retro-style rather than old console ports such as Sonic CD. Keep sending me titles if you feel that they are essentials, i.e. that they represent the best of the retro genre on iOS and I will add them to a new list in the third post that I included as a placeholder for this purpose. Note: The image sizes are streamlined in the TA App, so the list looks best there rather than in a web browser.
Maybe it could exclude direct ports but include good re-makes like Space Invaders Infinity Gene and Pac-Man CE.
Polyroll is a truly spectacular platformer with an authentic retro style and excellent controls. There is clearly inspiration from Sonic, Megaman, and Mario but the title manages to incorporate elements from these games without feeling like a clone. This is due in part to meticulously crafted levels. I find it difficult to refrain from lavishing praise upon this delightful hidden gem.
Monkey Labour I may be biased but Monkey Labour should make it into the list I think. TA Review: 'Monkey Labour' Review - A Love Letter to Fans of Classic LCD Handheld Games
I think that the LCD games really deserve a list of their own. Here are some examples in no particular order: LCD Bugs War Cocoa Monkey Pong & Ping Saloon Monkey Trouble Pokopo Bail-Out Living Dead Walker (LCD) Great Leaping Lambrettinis Retro Games Collection Landlubbers Made in USSR (Series) Bank Panic HauntedLCD Marco Bros. Retro Run Military Naval Pocket Game Nostalgia - GRAND PRIX WORLD Vals Panic Iron Suit Attack Spooky Mansion Thriller Mansion Pancake Game Office Work Go!!! Submarine Battle - Retro Classic Western Bar - Retro Classic Where are my eggs? Fuel Panic Chef Panic SuperTennisG&W LED Football
"Zombies" deserves to be on the retro essentials i think. Great controls, great humor, fantastic retro visuals and a killer soundtrack.
